With all the cancellations to conferences and travels due to the Corona Virus, does anyone think that Marriott would roll over status to 2021?
Good question! Right now the only program that is rolling over status is Best Western. However it already carried out its relegations of those members that didn’t make the 2019 stays, as indeed has every other hotel group. Only Marriott has maintained everyone’s 2020 status at 31 December 2019 levels. The message from Marriott was that it would be carrying out the 2019 busts in mid-March, whether or not that will now happen is certainly questionable as hotels are certainly not crowded right now and anything that causes anyone to consider Marriotts more favourably than the hungry competition is surely to be encouraged.
Having said that, these days Marriott Customer Services is simply not even remotely what it was and there’s definitely a lack of joined-up thinking going on, so I wouldn’t count on them cancelling the busts, however logical it may seem...
That's interesting... so Marriott hasn't relegated the status of any members in 2020 who didn't requalify in 2019? I must have completely missed that! I agree, it certainly doesn't seem like a bad "promotion" to encourage people to travel or pick back up once the COVID-19 situation improves.
Yes they have. I received an e-mail from my ambassador towards the end of February telling me I had lost Ambassador status. It doesn't really matter that my Bonvoy account still shows me as Ambassador Elite because I no longer have an ambassador to do things for me.
I see they are extending for residents of China & environs
”Members who earned Elite Status in 2019 and reside in one of these specified regions as noted on their Membership Profile as of February 1, 2020 as mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR or Taiwan will receive an extension of their Elite Status to February 2022.”
I am wondering if they will bring this to the residents of the United States as lock downs become more prevalent. It seems like the right thing to do.
or to the world.. or to the Americas which would include Canada as well....
same policy should be rolled in Japan.
