New to the forum. Supposed to head to the JW Marriott on March 31st and still contemplating canceling. The hotel said all restaurants are operating. Would appreciate any recommendations and/or comments? Thank you.
Sound very iffy at best pal13. Many properties are closing pools, sauna's, resort amenities due to COVID-19. When I checked into a Sheraton in Ft Worth on Monday, everything was open and operating. Today, the pool, spa, gym, lounge, and housekeeping services were discontinued. So, although the restaurants may be open, everything else might be closed or could be in the next few days as things continue to tighten. Governors across the US are implementing restrictions in many states and even contemplating much more restrictive measures. The JW is very nice but I wouldn't get any hopes up that they'll be able to give you the level of service you would want for a luxury stay. It is up to you, but you probably need to reevaluate whether to keep the reservation.
By the way, welcome to Insiders! Sorry the information isn't very positive for your stay, but hopefully that will change over the next several months as we navigate through this pandemic.
Cheers! Stay safe!
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond; your candor is appreciated. 3rd trip I'll probably cancel this month. Losing points quickly.
Welcome to Insiders pal13.
What do you mean "losing points"? You mean not gaining any points due to cancelling or losing points due to the March 4th category changes?
If due to the category changes I'd call the hotel and see if they'd allow you to cancel your points stay which will refund the points to your account instantly if not sooner, then ask them to allow you to re-book another time for the same number of points you were using. If you don't ask the answer is always the same, NO. But you might get lucky due to the circumstances for cancelling and if they agree make sure you get that persons name, position at the property and request and email from them stating what they told you for your records and future plans.
Shame as the JW Marco and the entire area is excellent.
Thank you for your response. I meant not gaining any additional points. Sorry for the confusion. Just heard that the Marriott is laying off thousands of employees (non-executive) so pretty much confirms that I will be canceling this trip.
Well when the time is right make the trek down to Marco Island, it is a great spot whether at the JW or just on the island and staying in Naples/Ft. Myers area.
Things are changing so fast, I doubt they’ll be open for long. Florida is behind the curve...
I was at the property last few days. The actual hotel and Island are packed with regulars and tourists.
That is changing fast. The city has now closed a few of the public beach access points and encouraging all tourists to leave. The beaches are still open for locals as of this morning.
