With the announcement from the communitymanagers of the March 4, 2020, category changes Category Changes Coming March 4 where are you going to book point stays or have booked them?
I’ve redeemed points at the following properties which are going up a category: Ritz-Carlton Sarasota, Ritz-Carlton Dallas & The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas!
Several others have gone up a category as well, but I’m paying the cash rate: Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia, Hotel Zachary, Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island & SpringHill Suites New Smyrna Beach. This is illustrative of how many of my total properties are increasing.
On a positive note, Castle Hotel is going down a category!
Courtyard Calgary South is a nice little gem of a hotel close to the mountains where I go...currently a CAT 1 with exceptional service, staff & rooms... now going up to CAT 2 - so I grabbed Easter weekend for 5,000 points per night!! Some of my others are coming down so I am fine with that!
Ritz-Carlton Charlotte - 50k certificate - No Change
Ritz-Carlton Sarasota - Cash & Points - Up
Vedema Santorini - Points - Up
Hotel Grande Bretagne - Points - No Change
Lots of Ritz-Carltons Going Up on the List
I threw a 50K cert at Seattle Marriott Waterfront on the night before TIPPLE. Glad I did! It's going from 6 to 7 which means that going forward a 50K cert there will only work on off-peak nights.
I’ll be burning some points for the @arubamarriott Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. It’s moving up to a category 7 hotel under the new structure. Just waiting for my preferred dates to come available next January.
We will be headed to the Aruba Stellaris next month using points that we booked right before last years devaluation.
Nowhere yet, but several bookings for upcoming vacations will be evaluated in the next few weeks before the change. However, some may be worth waiting for as they may go down (yes, it is possible for appealing properties).
For sure if they are going to go down in category then heck yes wait. Not even I would rush to book a property going down.
Renaissance Paris La Defense Cat 4 7-night travel package cert
SHS North Fresno
Those all went up?
They most surely did, and again, (from another thread) really? Fresno is podunk. It’s Central California Ag Country (we have Devin Nunes ). There are no full services properties, but I will say, prices have shot up this last year at the select services properties, so there’s that (but I still don’t get it.)
I locked in my reservation at the JW Marriott in Cusco Peru!!
I've booked 5 nights at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Resort & Spa for 120000 points (off peak pricing). It's moving up to Category 6. Super Excited.
I’ve been braining Vietnam for a couple of years now. Good for you getting in on this property before the bump! Please double back after your trip and let us know your thoughts regarding your stay.
Will surely post about my trip. For now, I'm just hoping for the virus to die down.
I wish I knew they were changing categories, I would have bought the points I needed (or borrowed them from another coworker). I booked a hotel in Aruba, and the room I wanted for 230k points. I was a bit shy but I had was plenty of time to earn it, which I will before I go. Well last week they changed categories and now my reservation shows that I need 280k for my stay. How frustrating is that? If I knew, I could have added the 15k I needed. Now I have to come up with 50k more by the same time. When I requested help, I got an email that essentially said, 'kiss our fannies you worthless 1700+ night lifetime titanium. We consider this case closed".
Sorry to here there midloplatinum, You should come on here more often. The biggest value of this site for me is getting all of the information to avoid unwelcome surprizes like you got.
Ugh I have 2 Cat 6 weeks from travel packages where every destination I wanted to go is now bumped up and Marriott will not let me upgrade them. Easy to switch hotel chains or stay at independents where I travel mostly in NYC. Marriott brand has gone down considerably and it feels like they nickel and dime you on everything.
