Any recommendations on which property in to visit for a romantic NONski visit to Slat Lake City, Utah?
Romantic downtown SLC, hmmm not the usual question, people usually say a conference, skiing, Genealogy, or tech company.3 properties for “just across the street” proximity to the Salt Palace Conference Center & Temple, try the Marriott City Creek Downtown, or the (both ~1 year old) AC Downtown & Towne Place Suites hotels.
The AC had more style, a good bar (though quiet) and fabulous new edgy style.
The Marriott listed above is always very busy. It is (slowly and about 5yrs past due) remodeling rooms. Front desk + luggage staff has been quite helpful and the weekend breakfast buffet is excellent. Consensus is to avoid the downtown Residence Inn, sad property with service issues.
A few blocks away is the Marriott City Center (YES SLC has 2!! Marriotts with the word City in the name = epic confusion for 1st time visitors). It is a few more blocks from the Temple & convention center, but still a very easy walk. A nice hotel, which last yr was also starting room remodeling, if you are there in the winter, ask for the side away from the ice rink, which can be noisy @ night.
Squatters One of many brew pubs and has good food too, as are Cafe Molise (Italian ish) and the Blue Iguana (Mexican). FYI the LDS Temple area has started massive construction to reinforce the Temple’s structure and to add to the visitor’s center.
SLC boasts the world’s best Family History Library with expert/helpful staff even if you only have a few hours 8am-9pm except Sundays. SLC also has long blocks (reputedly 1/4mi) and the SLC Valley’s altitude is over 4,000ft which can exhaust you on the 1st day. Also worth noting many stores are closed on Sunday.
