Its finally happened, but now its 2 points per £ instead of 3..... all happens end of January
Yup, looks that way!
2 points per £ on general spends, 6 points per £ at Marriotts. With a new benefit of 15 EQNs credited each April.
The 15 EQNs do mean if I’m struggling to 50 nights I’ll definitely make it for those SNAs but given a double nights promo those 15 nights could get me across the 75 night for a free Cat5 cert.
Of course I already have the legacy Marriott Credit card with its 10EQN. Now I know they’re not meant to double up, but Marriotts IT being what it is, and the U.K. being a small market, i do wonder.
On the other hand I’ve just received (literally as I was typing this response in) a 25,000 mile bonus offer to rejoin the Virgin AMEX I abandoned a couple of years ago. Hmmm, £75 Bonvoy AMEX or £160 Virgin AMEX with 25,000 miles... That’s a toughie - can’t really make both pay, so which is it to be?
EQN nights mean nothing to me, I always do 180 nights anyway and hit $50k spend... 25k virgin miles..... not a bad offer
Should have read it a bit better before I left home, but does it still give a free night cert after £25k?
According to HeadforPoints it does, but it’s limited to 25,000 points. Since spending on AMEX in GB isn’t easy due to low acceptance rates I’ve never been able to get much above £15,000 in a year so haven’t managed to trigger the cert. I’ve always found sufficient value in the 3 points per £ proposition...
I spend about 700 per week at Marriotts in the UK, so hit it quite quick... problem is finding somewhere to take it
Well there’s no question with that weekly Bonvoy spend that the card is still valuable to you. Even if all you do is transfer your Bonvoy points to airline miles, with 6 Bonvoy points per £ you’re effectively getting 2.5 airline miles (Avios/Virgin/KLM/Lufty/AA etc) which is easily more than any other miles and points card. And we both know that spent wisely those Bonvoy points can easily exceed those airline transfer values. So for your Bonvoy spend the AMEX is an easy yes, although whether I’d do day-to-day spend on the AMEX at only 2 Bonvoy points per £ I’m less sure....
