Any ideas what it will be yet?
Well, the previous Megabonus "Unlock More" is still running through January 14th, and the "Exclusively For You" promotion seems to be running until mid March. I can't imagine Marriott running more than two promotions at once, and there's usually been a slight gap between Megabonuses, so maybe the next promotion will be announced in February.
well I just finished my "Exclusively for you " promotion on 31/12 which run in parallel with "Unlock More" so it was a result for my, my "Exclusively for you " generated over 58k points
No news yet. In case anyone is wondering, these were the dates for the Spring MegaBonus in recent years
2019: Mar 19 - Jun 4
2018: Jan 16 - Apr 15
2017: Jan 16 - Apr 15
2016: Feb 1 - May 15
2015: Feb 1 - Apr 30
2014: Feb 1 - Apr 30
Looks like we should be hoping for a Feb 1 start to the next promotion. Marriott usually sends out some sort of announcement a week or two before the start date. I suppose we should all be watching our email. Of course if past experience counts for anything, the next promo will show up on the promo page (and in the blogosphere) before Marriott sends us anything.
I am 100% certain if we keep checking TPG, we'll hear about it before Marriott informs anyone else! At this point, I'll just say it's a PROMO as Mega seems to be a thing of the past!
If the "elusively for you" is the new flavor of bonus, these are working there way to MicroBonus land
Mine was 2K points for a weekend stay, 3K more for your second.
This to a person who spends Sunday-Thursday in Marriotts. Yea I want to spend a couple weekends at a Marriott for another 5K points.
I would expect the point of promotions from Marriott's point of view is to entice members to make more stays. If they simply gave you more points for stays you've already booked, how does that make them any more money? It actually costs them money in more point redemptions. So they want business travelers to make weekend stays, and they want leisure travelers like me to make more stays overall (I almost never travel for work). I've noticed you gripe a lot about not getting more from Marriott for all the nights you stay (I love having Platinum status - lounge access, free breakfast, & late checkout are amazing), yet you don't seem to be willing to give Marriott anything in return. You act like spending a weekend at Marriott is the worst thing that could happen to you. So why should they be willing to just give you more points for your Sunday - Thursday stays?
nipper since you have spent a lot of time at Courtyard in the past, you might want to try the 53M corporate rate from Marriott to see if one of the places you're staying has the 2000 point bonus per night (in addition to the 10x Base Rate, Titanium Bonus, and Credit Card Multiplier). I've snagged 24K on my last stay (plus all the regular points/bonuses) and have another stay about to grab 12K more. It isn't available at every Courtyard, and prices swing widely, but I found one with a great rate and it worked well. For me, this worked far better than that Exclusively for You bonus.
Unfortunately that rate is pretty high here?
Cheapest CY I can get near where I work is $153 a night for that rate, others are well over $200. I can get a non-prepay rate of $109 (also not a corp rate). $40 a night for 2K points is a bad trade.
Similar to hall, I was lucky on this one as I generated 44K points with the opening and a targeted bonus. Almost all were leisure nights.
Gobi, I find nipper comments on here quite balanced. He is one of our long standing roadies and I find his perspective to be quite valuable. He just calls things the way they are.
I'll throw some support behind nipper as well. He puts in a lot of nights at Marriott and if a promo means getting a bit more out of existing stays, so be it.
I do think one element of gobisbay's comment bears repeating "promotions from Marriott's point of view is to entice members to make more stays." I've been beating that drum for years. The challenge is how to appeal to business AND leisure travelers. It's almost impossible. The targeted promos over the last year or two have tried (and in my mind generally failed).
This last "Unlock More" promo did get me to make one extra stay (part 2 needed 6 stays to earn 15k and I already had 5 booked). Of course all my stays are leisure, though I travel quite a bit. Interestingly, I'll also end up with 44k between the last general promo and the targeting one I'm still working on.
So, how does Marriott encourage more stays from both business and leisure travelers with the same promo? I'm still trying to figure that out.
Great comment... I got the 2nd part 2000 points after 4 stays without even trying to achieve it! Some win, some dont... The part of the post "yet you don't seem to be willing to give Marriott anything in return" I found strange if the poster knew of nipper which I think in one post he spends like almost a year in Marriott hotels, hence what more do you think he possibly should/can give Marriott...Maybe we should revert to your original post and see how people officially did with UNLOCK
I can understand nippers frustration and satire, but I do not think we need to throw our support behind him and politely chastise gobisbay. Marriott is a good corporation trying to provide a valuable service to us and I think they do. It’s reward program has its pluses and minuses. What I think we can all agree on is that those of us who spend scores if not hundreds on days on the road each year..... 1250 + lifetime for me in Marriott properties..... is that some of us want more points during promotions..... For me I don’t care so much about promotions..... but, 75% bonus on every dollar that either I spend at a Marriott or every dollar my employer reimburses me for that I spend at Marriott is sweet! Plus all the other perks I get as a Lifetime Titanium member, which also means my better half enjoys every time we visit our four children, their families, our ten grandchildren, friends, etc.
Look at the perks we get for 50 and 75 nights, including the 15 free nights each year if you have a Marriott VISA Card, etc. Five or Ten Suite Nights, guaranteed room types 48 hour bumping rights.... is that fair to someone who gets bumped.... I am sorry, I should be nice, but I don’t care. Read the Ts and Cs..... If you don’t like it walk..... What I don’t like is complaining, it’s akin to whining. Marriott is a company, and a good one at that. If we have questions or complaints please express them as such, but to become frustrated is really kinda silly. People make mistakes, So, do companies, but just because you cannot always have your cake and eat it too, well is again, it’s kinda silly.
More than nothing & less than too much?
Does anyone have any updates regarding the upcoming promotions?
I hope it is truly MEGA (which I doubt) and starts mid to late Feb so I can continue milking the current IHG 4X and Hilton 2000 per stay promo for as long as possible
Is this the week we'll hear something? We learned of the Fall 2019 "Unlock More" promotion a week before it began. If Marriott is planning something for the first part of February, we should learn the details soon. If we don't, that could mean a later start date.
I'd hate to think the Spring MegaBonus could become another casualty of the Bonvoy program. Having lost the birthday elite night credit and the 10 nights for even the first meeting as of the beginning of this year, a decent spring promotion would go a long way to helping us forget the perks we no longer have.
I’m reckoning it’ll be a mid to late February start. No inside knowledge (yeah crushing, this is supposed to be Insiders, right?) but that’s my pin-the-tail-on-the-pinata guesstimate...
Oh Marriott - KNOCK KNOCK!!! Where is your bonus?!! Other hotels are coming out with more promo - IHG has that 4X but you only get it after 15th stay!!! duh!!
Just been told it will be announced in the next few days, Hotels in the UK have been informed
Good to know, although it does seem I've got quite a few stays coming up with both IHG and Marriott that are during this “fallow” period...
Define "few" please!
For me to maximize a points-oriented bonus, I need the bonus to start soon so my expensive business trips in the next couple months actually count. If it starts too late I will only have a couple low dollar business trips and maybe 5 nights on personal travel with the family. March is my money-maker!
I'm guessing: "Stay 2 nights and get bathwater included in the room rate"!
you might be pleasantly surprised then!
I am still in the middle of my last promotion. I think I unlocked this offer after 2 stays on the last promo that ended on 1/14/20. It is get 9k bonus after the 3rd stay, max 27k. I've had 4 stays and I have 4 nights booked next week. The question is, should I check in and out during my 4 night stay or just split my 4 nights into 2 stays. I don't know if I'm travelling anymore after next week so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle of checking in and out daily. There's 4 different hotels to choose from and one of them is a Courtyard. They don't offer free breakfast, so that is my least favorite hotel to stay at. The promo ends on 2/29/20.
I had 2 running at the same time, so thats not an issue, it was very lucrative
I think we might be getting closer. When I checked my promotions page today, the "Unlock More" promo which ended about a month ago finally disappeared. Until yesterday it had been showing under the heading "Recent Promotions" (or something like that).
I can't believe we've reached mid-February without any announcement. With the exception of last year, the Spring promos have all started by the beginning of February. Let's hope the wait is worth it.
Damn, you beat me to it. I just noticed the same thing and was about to make a post.
yeah this might be the longest Ive been a marriott member and not seen a promotion posted. seems Marriott has gotten tighter on their rewards program now that they bought up their competition. along with the peak pricing for points and their news last week that they are basically moving up all hotels up one level in category levels the message here is that Marriott is giving you less for more money.
"and their news last week that they are basically moving up all hotels up one level in category levels"
That is quite an exaggeration there Kirk.
While I have been disappointed in the timing and value of the last couple of bonuses, we need to realize that the bonus is an incentive scheme. I joined MarriottRewards back in 2008 when the economy was weak and money was tight. We saw great rates and good bonuses for the next few years. Now with a strong economy there is less reason for them to incent us to stay so expect softer bonuses and a tougher path to achieve top tier status.
Now with a strong economy there is less reason for them to incent us to stay... hhhmmm... am 50/50 on this.. the bottom line is that Marriott is the largest now, so as Arne mentioned years ago, they really dont care if they lose a few of the 'talkers in the bush' - that's all it amounts to..they can afford to get rid of a lot of us..but there is always 1000% reason to incent customers' loyalty no matter how big you are or think you are and the big does fall - Lehman Brothers... so Bonvoy should be cautious...but I agree 100% on the exaggeration in the previous post
Good point, but Marriott is hardly a monopoly. It just does not have many competitors that covers its whole breadth of their brands. However there is lots of competition within each brand category. They are not even the largest chain.
What i was reacting to was again a "sun will not come up tomorrow" exaggeration that are numerous on here.
A couple of years ago, Arne mentioned that although they are the biggest hotelier in the world, they still only represented, maybe, 6% of all hotel/rentable rooms worldwide...
I just checked on my promotions tab and my Unlock More is still there. Hmmmm...
oh come on people... TPG will have all the info before anyone else does...so whether the unlock if there or not, I am certain Bonvoy wont be releasing any huge MEGABONUS that we all should out... YYYYEEESSS!!! It's finally here!
I didn't make the last bonus and as of now nothing in the promotions section.
8/1 work/personal nights coming up. A MegaBonus would be wonderful.I earned 7,000 out of the last bonus over 11 nights Dec & Jan.
I did pretty well on the last promotion but only bc I have a ton of one night stays (travel for work going to different markets frequently). From Oct-Jan I got 62k bonus points but it took me 23 stays to get there. 2k for 2 stays, then 15k for 3 stays, then 45k for 15 stays (15k for each 5 stays).
Looking forward to seeing the next promo bc I'm getting bummed spending nights without an added incentive.
bejacob , I copied this from your entry above. Thanks for the history - I love your attention to detail. I also, personally, love to try and figure out trends. So, looking at bejacob's list above, while one entry doesn't make a trend, last year's Spring Mega started in mid-March which is much later than prior years (Jan's and Feb's - which were kinda trends). I'm not exactly sure of the timeline, but weren't those prior years, 2018 and prior, before the fully-integrated merger? If so, I'm thinking the 2019 Spring Mega date could portend a decision for a later start date. If the change to March in 2019 can be loosely interpreted as a trend based on the prior years, we could get a new Mega starting in mid(ish)-March. Based on this historical reference, and knowing that huge corporations like to move slowly and consistently, I won't start getting too worked up about the Spring Mega (or whatever it turns out to be called) until March 19th.
I think we should not get worked up about it all as we have no control over it....unless you are 100% die hard Bonvoy loyalist ( good for you!) why would anyone not grab up some of the free points by Hilton (2000) per stay - I love it - as I earn roughly 7000 per night with double base and welcome bonus!) or IHG 4X promo..so much out there... already goblled up Wyndham stay 2 night for free night and Best Western stay 2 and get a free night...so for me... Bonvoy 'mega' bonus can start April while I keep burning!!
