Any one in Venice? Saw pictures of the Gritti flood first floor but haven't found any reports of other Marriott properties.
Nothing on any websites.
Scheduled for a few days in Venice in early December.
Appreciate any updates.
The worse flooding (last week) is over, I believe, and I've corresponded with Dei Dogi (formerly the Marriott Autograph Boscolo) in Cannaregio Sisteria, as shown here on left, and they're operating as usual. https://www.marriott.com/search/findHotels.mi Lobby is wonderfully decorated in December, as shown, and the dining room food is fantastic. However, if you'd prefer to eat outside the hotel, ask concierge about Colombini restaurant nearby (somewhat difficult to find, but well worth the effort) - Check their website:
This is where I always stay and best reached via public water transport from airport and/or train station.
From looking at flight schedules into Venice, it doesn't appear the traffic has subsided too much at this time of the year, and you can take advantage of lower hotel rates in December.
Thanks so much. I am actually staying at the Dei Dogi. I like the Boscolos and wanted something authentic and away from the crowds. So appreciate your reply!
If you're arriving Marco Polo Airport, I'd suggest buying a water taxi ticket (approx. 26 Euros) to Madonna del Orto port, which is second stop in Venice and only five minute walk to the hotel. It's cheaper to take bus outside the airport to the Piazalle Roma Bus Park, but then you'd have to either take water taxi (Vaporetta) to Madonna del Orto, or walk about 15-20 minutes, but the hotel is not easy to find if you've never been there. (See map I've marked)
You can register at the concierge desk for free transportation to/from popuar San Marco, which is a lot easier and less time consuming than navigating
your way on foot.
If you have any other questions, let me know
Thank you once again. Its been a while since I've been in Venice.
Coming in late from Paris so just using the Courtyard for the night and then I'll be fresh in the morning to get into Venice.
Since you're staying at the Airport Courtyard you can catch bus outside the hotel for transport to Venice Piazalle Roma (bus park) and then head to your hotel fro there. The closest Marriott from the bus park is the AC Hotel, within walking distance.
There was an article in today's "Wall St. Journal" about the water damage to several buildings, stores, etc in Venice, but don't think they're experiencing flooding just now.
