OK, so you have 1M points...free airline tickets, a sig other and 2 kids over 22 (adults)....which means two rooms.
Where do you go!????
I am making a guess that you want to go where the two young adults want to go and where is that? The beach, skiing, hiking, city touring, etc.. If you can elaborate a little more, I am sure insiders will give you all kinds of suggestions.
Passports ? Choose exotic. Pick a continent you've never been to.
Have you asked them? Even if you are trying to surprise them, just bring it up casually. Hey guys if we could go anywhere on vacation, where would you want to go?
Right now, the St. Regis Maldives is offering free dinner for award stays in May. That's in addition to the normal free breakfast for Platinum and Titanium. Additionally, most dates in May are "off-peak." You could get 5 nights for 280,000 points per room at one of Marriott's most aspirational properties.
How did you find the free dinner?
It's on their website under "Rate Details" for any Points Stay in May of 2020.
I’d stay at Al Maha, A Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa in Dubai. They offer Bedouin suites with a private pool for 85K points per night if you go during the hot season (Aug, Sep)
I second this suggestion.
I'd recommend if the four of you are interested in food and wine, getting 2 rooms for 5 night in Florence at either the Westin or the St Regis. The StR is a bit more luxurious, it'll be approx 360K (with peak it could be 400) per room for 5 nights but its more difficult string 5 night together with scattered days starting in May without points booking open. The Westin, which is not at all like a domestic Westin at all, is also a great hotel and in the 240k points range for 5 night. We've stayed at both. Given the current points difference, though the StR is great, I'd do the Westin
The good thing about Florence is there's a lot to do for a small city, museums, food, great wine with vineyards not far from the city. But also because of the both tourists and large US university semester abroad there's enough for those in their early 20 to do. There's also a bit of shopping in Florence.
You then could blow some points on Marriott moments like a car and driver tour guide of tuscany or a day or two. I normally don't think that's a good use of points but with 1M and using around 700K for the room. I'd also if can go in April. The weather is good and crowds much lower than after May. Florence can get very hot from May to Sept.
Well our familiy has done similar things in the past. Here is what we did in similar scenario:
Additionally, For 1M Bonvoy points you can probably rent a house for 1 week in Italy or similar and explore from there but it will depend on how much time all 4 can getaway.
Good luck and dream big!
I would say Africa as the region to start. Specifically, Johannesburg and then go towards Kruger National park and go on safari. The Protea hotels are nice. Example here: https://traveler.marriott.com/johannesburg/johannesburg-safari/
I would second the Africa suggestions. Split between Cape Town sight seeing and wine tasting and then Kruger for safari.
Thanks all....and to answer globaltrekker - yes blow it all. I get about 1M each year.
