If you gift gold status to someone who has already been making reservations and just got to gold on their own, does that add to their current status and upgrade them to Platinum?
So it wont help them at all, thats rough.
Any other suggestions to help a friend out?
mohsin855 Wow, you are a great friend! We also used our annual choice benefit to gift someone gold status last year. As brightlybob confirmed, gifting a gold membership to a gold member will not put them any closer to Platinum. When you gift a gold status, it elevates that members status to Gold, BUT they are not given the 25 elite night credits to their account. if they already earned it on their own, that is great, because technically, the years that someone is gifted gold status does not count towards lifetime status either.
You could work with customer service to transfer some of your points to your friend's account so they can book stays on under their reward account and earn more elite night credits towards Platinum. There is a limit of how many points you can transfer per year and there might be a slight fee. We have only done the "point sharing" among spouses and so the rules for that are a little different.
Thanks for taking the time to write out that response. Appreciate the help!
If they've not participated in a Status Challenge in the past 3 years, you could have them contact Marriott Customer service and request one that would take them from Gold (that you gifted them) to Platinum. o0o0o0o0o0o...points! posted some helpful information a while back ...just look for Paragraph 9D in the attached link for information about the Challenges for Gold and Platinum levels....
