Will be in Shanghai 25-28 October. First trip there. Onwards then to Singapore. Back to Shanghai 1-5 Nov. What hotels should we (husband and I) consider? Activities? Sightseeing? Thanks!
I would recommend either the Marriott City Centre or the Royal Meridien. I stay at these two hotels frequently, great staff, restaurants, etc. Both of these hotels are adjacent to People's Square. This is the walking street area of shopping and a direct path to the Bund. It is on subway Line 2 which can take you to both the Pudong Airport and the Hongqiao Airport. Also on this subway line is Nanjing Road shopping area in the Jing'an Temple area which is another great spot to walk around. Download the MetroMan subway app for maps and time of all the subways in China and a few other Asian cities.
Le Royal Meridien - best smelling hotel lobby I've ever set foot in. Massive breakfast smorgasbord. And if you don't have elite status, you can book a rate which includes a great room on a high floor and access to the Royal Lounge for around $235 a night. The Meridien definitely beats the Westin Bund. Two Shanghai hotels I'd like to try are the JW Marriott Tomorrow Square and the Renaissance Zhongshan Park.
JW Marriott Tomorrow Square is one of my favorite. Has the world's highest library.
Very central to food, shopping, and attractions. The hotel check-in is on the 38th floor and is floor to ceiling windows with piano bar, cocktail lounge, and restaurants. Amazing views.
Just stayed there this past Sunday, great property and an excellent location.
Stayed there a couple years ago. Great place, great views and great location.
The Marriott City Centre is definitely not your cookie-cutter American Marriott. Great position right at the top of Nanjing Road and on the corner of Tomorrow Square and the metro there’s plenty to see, do and eat with easy connections around the city. The same could be said for the JW too, though it’s not nearly as exceptional to its brand as the Marriott and is usually around half as much again in cost...
Thanks to all. Has anyone tried JW Marriott Marquis Shanghai Pudong? The first Marriott Marquis?
And, what is not to like about Westin Bund? Location seems great, right on Bund. We definitely want to see museums and 'experience" a short walk on Bund (hubby can't do too much walking).
That's the airport hotel (JW). Good for layovers only for me.
Triggie: I am currently in SHA and living in various hotels for months. Have tried Tomorrow JW, City Marriott, Sheraton Pudong and Sheraton HongKou(currently). I am in the suite, alway. If you have questions, I can help. swiftm001 at yahoo.com
