We are staying at MVC in AZ from Dec 28 to Jan 5. Is it a 2019 or a 2020 reservation? Or do the 2019 nights count this year and the 2020 next? I'm just trying to make sure I have enough nights to keep my Titanium... Thanks!
From what I have seen on other MRI posts and personal eperience, the points post in the year of checkout.
2 years ago I stayed at the Renaissance in DC from Dec 30th to Jan 3rd and the trip and nights were clearly broken down in the previous year and the new year.... not sure if that is the same now since IT and things have changed.
There is one additional factor that no one has mentioned yet. If your stay is on points, all the nights, regardless of whether they are in December or January will be posted as if the entire stay happened in January. If it is a standard paid stay, the nights will be split up, December nights credited to 2019, January nights credited to 2020. At least that how it worked at the end of 2018.
The best thing you can do is to not take any chances. Book another stay (or two) before this one so that you don't need the nights from your year-end stay to push you over the Titanium threshold. Suppose something goes wrong with Marriott IT (not too hard to imagine) and even with a paid stay, they somehow credit the nights to 2020. Getting that sorted out would be a nightmare. Save yourself the agony and plan extra weekend trips during the last quarter of the year. You'll have your Titanium status assured for another year and likely enjoy the year-end trip even more without wondering if the nights will be credited properly.
Don't forget, there is usually a MegaBonus running from mid-September to mid-January so you might even be able to collect some additional bonus points along the way.
Its a MVC stay so that could complicate it more. I'll work on getting the nights separately and assume it will help me start 2020 well...
My Dec 30 - Jan 1 points posted in the new year. It being a mattress run, I had them manually added into the previous year (and got to keep the 2 in the new year too!)This was back in 2016-2017, I believe.
Good to see the system is now better set up for this, but takes away the opportunity of double-dipping for ENCs.
I have stayed away over New Year a couple of times. The points have always posted in the new year, the night's have always been split by date.
