We recently stayed and ate in the bar at a Marriott hotel in Chicago. We received Reward Points for food and beverage charged to our room, but not for the tip. Has this been your experience? C
Tip is not eligible for points. Nether should it be if ,as it should do, goes to the staff not the hotel.
Of course, neither should it be, brilin. But we have had mixed postings like brightlybob, although we rarely dine in hotel restaurant. C
I agree, tips aren’t eligible for points. I think I’ve received points on them occasionally but that would have been in error.
Food and drink, including alcoholic beverages are "qualifying charges” for points purposes, except in some areas where bylaws prevent “inducements” on the sale of alcohol meaning points can’t be awarded on alcoholic beverages at hotels in those areas.
I wish that policy would get changed to also include parking.
A lot of hotels outsource their parking services to a third party company (not Marriott) which is not eligible for points.
I don't know whether I've ever been to a Marriott property that didn't give me points on the tip? IHG never does, and Hilton has always given me points on the tip with one exception at one hotel which seemed to have been coded to prevent it.
Perhaps a bit of a tangent, but I never understood why SPG properties refused points in those jurisdictions for alcohol where every other chain was fine with it in the same locations?
