Going to Savannah for a few days. Anyone have recent experience here? Is there a resort fee? Is there a lounge for elite members?
My wife and I just stayed there over the 4th of July. No resort fee no concierge lounge. Beyond that, the stay was very nice. Rooms are well-appointed, beds are comfortable, a/c worked great, river-view rooms allow for freighter viewings often (neat sight, no loud noises), extraordinary staff, central location within walking distance of many things, roof-top bar.
If you've never been to Savannah, it's a charming town, rich in history! We've never stayed downtown on Bay Street, nor the Marriott on east side of town due to parking, and business of the downtown area.
We've always stayed at the Residence Inn, just off freeway coming into town from I-95, which affords free parking, but a bit far to walk down to Bay Street area. Parking is not really a problem in Savannah.
We've also stayed at the Autograph Hotel SE of downtown, across from Forsyth Park, and really enjoyed this.
It's hard to believe that Savannah, not know for "riding through the snow in a sleigh", is where the familiar tune,"Jingle Bells", was composed.
If you enjoy eating you'll enjoy Vic's on the River (downtown), and the Pink House, along with the Local (near the Residence Inn), but there are many other fine restaurants.
You might also enjoy taking a day trip to Tybee Island, about an hour east of Savannah.
Great hotel, great service, afternoon elite champaign and cheese. As said above riverview rooms are nice for viewing but you can hear traffic in the morning (delivery vehicles, trash, etc.). Breakfast is excellent in the attached restaurant and staff super friendly.
