I'm asking because of my many stays this year, I've only been greeted as a Platinum member twice and offered arrival gifts three times. It used to be rare that these things weren't done, but now (at least in my case), it's the norm. I've even had to escalate things a couple of times to get the points added to my stay in lieu of the arrival gift I wasn't offered. It's too much effort, so I haven't even bothered lately, but my last 3 nights on the road at different hotels and none of them greeted or offered me a gift got me to wondering if this is a new thing?
What's been your experience as of late? Was there a policy change?
Across the pond - Only if I checkin via the app where the greeting is really perfunctory with no welcome amenity offer, but speedy checkin is the purpose of the app checkin which to accomplish the speed pre-chooses the points welcome for you. If you want an alternative amenity you have to ask on arrival, which slows it all down and probably gets the “Thankyou for your loyalty” greeting too.
My non-app checkins get the old-fashioned slower, but more personal experience. So no, it's not disappeared, at least not here in Europe.
