I am used to receiving an email from Marriott every year on my birthday gifting me a free night, however this year I did not receive any email or an award night, are they still doing it?
I did not either. I always received some email with Birthday wishes, like almost every loyalty program. Last week I must have received a dozen more such emails.
in the past Marriott would give as a present one qualifying night, not this year. Even Starbucks gives a Birthday coffee. not Marriott it seems and I was even staying at a Marriott resort on the day, JWM Venice. I mentioned it in the email, angling for an upgrade, and when asking the concierge about a dinner reservation. They did a bottle of Prosecco. Oddly the concierge mentioned my birthday to another family when making them reservations. They told us on the hotel's shuttle boat the next morning. I found that inappropriate of the concierge but then he was about as helpful as an iPad.
the upgrades and service at the next hotels Gritti, Westin and StR in Florence have been great.

Where is my usual Birthday 1 night credit?
It may provide some useful answers.
The same happened to me the year. All previous years, I received the email and obtained my elite night, without any issues.
I submitted a ticket and after a few emails, they added the night to my account. I figured it was a side affect of the new Marriott Bonvoy, and believed eventually Marriott would fix it.
Last month I asked about mine. A day or so later I received an email stating: BIRTHDAY FREE NIGHT AWARD GOOD FOR FREE NIGHT UP TO 30K POINTS
A couple hours later I received a cancellation email.
I did end up receiving the elite night, so I'm happy. Found it a bit amusing though.
