Are mattress runs against policy?
As long as I actually check in personally and pay for the room myself, is there any reason to worry that I might run afoul of the T&C's?
You should not have any problems as long as you show up to check in. Using the mobile app is probably not sufficient as they may consider you a 'no show' which could result in the hotel charging you for the night while not giving you any points or elite night credits.
Marriott doesn't really care whether you stay in the room or not, so you could check-in, go up to your room, leave your keys on the desk or dresser (or not), and check out in the morning using the app.
I have never needed to do a mattress run but I have been borderline once or twice. I could have sworn that I found verbiage somewhere that you must stay there but I can't find that verbiage now. Regardless, just doing everthing bejacob said and maybe mess up the bed for good measure, how would anyone know? Mobile checkout makes this very easy.
For what it is worth, my plan if I ever fall short of Titanium is to just book a local Marriott because my kids love hotels and we could use the pool if it becomes apparent that I am not going to make status.
I have always show up. Go, use the bathroom, and mess up the bed. Then go on with life.
LMAO, once I checked into a hotel and the bed was already messed up. Stuff happens.
Sounds like nipper got there before you arrived.
its no different than doing Airline run... when I used to travel extensively and could not live without my Elite status, I did a same day turn around from YYZ to YVR to YYZ to get my points and chill. I do the same rarely with hotels but always pull up the bed sheets!
I Checked into a Hilton once in Milton Keynes, it was close to midnight.. went up t the room, used the Bathroom ( it had been a long Journey ) and then switched to room light on..... only to find there was NO bed, I called reception who thought I was joking but sent someone up... turms out the room was being used the next day as a meeting room so they had removed the Bed, So they gave me another room... so I used 2 rooms and 1 bathroom
They should have given you 60,000 for a free night! That is whacked!!!
That won't happen again because the Hilton Milton Keynes no longer exists. According to Hilton, 4 days ago - "the location has been separated from our Brands and is no longer associated with [the] Hilton organization, regrettably with this sudden termination, your booking confirmed on Hilton points will not be accepted at the location."
The hotel is currently for sale and doesn't appear to be accepting bookings at the moment.
We stayed at a Fairfield Inn 2 miles form our house last week! We wanted to get the double point bonus started before an upcoming 5-day stay...I'm glad I'm not alone. We did actually stay, though...let them make the bed...:)
A few years ago I needed 7 nights to get to Platinum again after falling behind in nights. I booked a room at the Sheraton Skyline in London. Went down for the first weekend, then went home to work from Monday to Thursday then returned for the last weekend. No problem. Just left a few clothes hanging in the wardrobe.
Now that’s quite an extreme “mattress run” there brilin
It was very early in my SPG travels. I had been Platinum for one year. Next year I didn't make the night's but went on a 18 night tour of the Canary Islands on 2nd January followed by a 7 night trip with family in February(3 rooms x7). Went to Malta for 4 nights beginning of March so just needed 7 nights to get my Platinum status back by end of March so booked into Sheraton Skyline for a week to get the status back. I was actually Gold for about 2 weeks!
With local Hilton properties, I have had a couple of negative experiences in mattress running. One of them assumes guilty-until-proven-innocent that the purpose of the stay is to host a raucous (drug) party; anyone living within 100 miles must agree to have their ID photographed and kept on file as a defensive mechanism, to which I strongly objected and was given a one-time exemption, never would return. The other was a few years back where I had an issue, and in a follow-up phone conversation with the general manager, she made a remark about locals being a "problem."
All of my many local stays in other properties, and other chains, have been just fine.
There have been several times in the past where I needed an extra night (or two) to satisfy a promo, so I booked a cheapo night(s) at my local Courtyard, took a shower & messed up the bed, as well as put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. No issues...
LOL....Life.. the things we do for STATUS....EH?!!! ( As we say in Canada)
Yes, and fortunately as an LTiT, I don’t have to play that game anymore
Same here.......no more status games!!!
I have done them to hit a level, especially if I find a good cash rate within a certain radius of home. Never an issue as long as I show up and collect the keys. Once, because I was pressed for time, I did not even enter the room. Typically I will at least watch a little TV.
