Is Marriott sending out a Titanium gift this year (like the ones they used to send for PP) ?
I wouldn't expect Titanium elites to get anything akin to the old Platinum Premier gift. Titanium is essentially the same as Platinum in the old program, not Platinum Premier. If anyone were to get some sort of gift, it would be Ambassador elites. Of course, it may be that in the Bonvoy program, there is no annual gift even for top tier elites.
bejacob gave the exact answer. Platinum Premier used to be an unpublished elite level. Once the programs merged, they called the old "platinum" level "platinum premier" to differentiate it from the platinum elite members which was only a name change that really meant "Gold Elite" from the old program... simple, right?
Maybe there is a new unpublished Elite level above Ambassador now that I am unaware of and no one will be aware of until some people start reaching it but, as of right now, there is no equivalent of what Platinum Premier Elite used to mean.
I am fairly sure the old (rumored) PP qualification requirement was similar if not the same as the current Ambassador level. And with the old SPG they did sent out gifts for Ambassadors. (though not all) I did qualify under the old SPG for a year, and they did ask for what I like for drinks and snacks when I joined. But I didn't end up getting them as I did not get along well with my ambassador...
There is (a status above Ambassador), I believe called Cobalt, which is the old "Five Star" - which is taken from Ritz-Carlton
As mentioned: the 75+ nights tier never got annual gifts sent out by Marriott HQ.
But then again, the last few years the gifts were of doubtful usefulness. The last one (travel valet) took most of the community some time to figure out what it was, followed by whether they would use it. Most useful use was a pirate hat, instead of using it as a valet.... Go figure!
Been wondering the same, as I have broken 200 nights for the past several years I have had a number of these. While the usefulness is sometimes questionable, I did appreciate it. And yes that did include the combination travel valet/pirate cap.
I am new to the Insiders and following the replies, does the moderator work for Marriott/SPG or is it a 3rd party? It seems to me that a lot of these questions could be easily answered by said 'moderator' instead allowing us to speculate.
Like I said, I'm new so don't butcher on your comments.
The old PP was an invitation-only group, not even a level per se since it had no spelled out benefits, just bragging rights and appreciation. If there is another one like that, then maybe they will get gifts.
PFS (Platinum Five-Star) was the level above the undocumented PP, an even more exclusive invitation-only level, which is what I believe the 'Cobalt' level is now.
I would have thought with an average of 185 paid nights a year (4 years over 200 nights) and $30K+ spend for 9 straight years that I would have gotten PFS status. The best I ever had was PP. Was I not spending enough?
Anyone on MRI ever received the PFS status?
Not even close (individual spending wouldn't sniff this status) - you need to have a corporate account spending 100s of thousands to the millions annually. You need 100s to 1000s of paid nights for multiple people and be a very large scale Marriott customer. It's a high-end invitation only status, where that invitation is solely by Marriott execs awarding that status to most likely other company execs (example, United execs that foster the United-Marriott partnership) with heavy hitting corporate accounts.
Never heard of Platinum Five Star....
Here's one old discussion on the topic.
