Looking for spring break spot using points. i have 4 kids (8-18) so we always need 2 rooms which is a major point buster. Want to go warm of course, looking for ideas. Again, trying to make the best use of points (400K) and still afford the airfare.
So many venues from which to choose - so few allowing points for rooms during high season. Good luck!
What parts of the world are you looking for travel?
would love to go to the carribean or mexico
I just did a search in Puerto Rico and Mexico and did not find any hotel with a check-in using points for the entire month of March. I did check the Fort Lauderdale area and there appears to be a number of hotels (lots of different categories) that are taking points for stays during the March time frame. It looks like Aruba, the Bahamas and St. Thomas have some hotels that are taking points as well. Good luck.
Good news is there are a number of excellent spots to pick from in Mexico or the Caribbean, bad news is as placestoseeandgo has noted above, this late in the game it could be difficult to find spots for points unless your Spring Break happens in April and then still could be rough to find. Good news, if you find something in a search snag it and come back asking for any reviews of the property and do check out the wonderful Marriott Insider's Hotel Review Master List that vaboywnder keeps up to date for us all to use....plus make sure it is able to be cancelled without any penalty if you don't like what other Insiders have written about the place in a review. I am certain we've got some awesome travel experts to help once you find a spot on points.
If Florida is an option, the west coast along the Gulf Coast (Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Naples and Marco Island...yes I know I'm biased having grown up there as a middle aged teen) you'll normally find excellent weather over Spring Break and less of a hectic lifestyle. Should your Spring Break be in April then you may find some spots coming open after baseballs Spring Training has ended. There are some very good properties not on a beach, but within 20-25 minutes that might be reasonably priced vs using points for both rooms.
Mexico, yep I can bet spots like Cancun, Cabo San Lucas (even though you might find the JW Marriott or Westin in Los Cabo available) while I'd imagine Cancun no....maybe Puerto Vallarta as the Marriott Resort is wonderful there with a huge pool and very very safe. Caribbean, depending on where you desire to visit in the Caribbean make sure they were not impacted from the Hurricane Maria as some islands have yet to fully recover and some of the resorts might not be fully operational.
Continue to check out spots almost daily to see if a point stay opens as they do tend to from time to time and it's always worth the repeated look see. We snagged a points stay on Maui at the MVC Labor Day weekend 2017, when nothing was available for weeks of looks simply by continually checking and massaging the dates some.
What part of the world are you going to be traveling from?
Marriott Canyon Villas in Phoenix. It is a timeshare but you can rent rooms just like a hotel. A 2 bedtoom unit will have a full kitchen.
Traveling during spring break means lots of other families are doing the same thing. I might suggest that you look for Residence Inns that might be in warm locations either near a beach or on a beach that might provide two and 3 bedroom units and possibly you can use points. Two places that come to mind are in Pompano Beach and Treasure Island near St.Peterburg's/Tampa area in Florida. In addition, these type of Marriott's will offer breakfast and I suspect would save a lot of money. As someone mentioned, there a number of Marriott Timeshares, but not sure if you can use points. One such place in in Panama City, not on the beach, but a great place that offers two and three bedrooms units, with a great pool area which I am sure your kids would love. If you have auto, it is a 15 minutes ride to many beaches, find out where to park before you go. Another option with lots of Marriott Timeshares is the Orlando area. Once again not sure of the availability. Good luck on your search.
