I'd like to get the 5 night credits for next year but it looks like if I pick it now it goes to 2018 total. If I wait to January would I be able to pick the night credits or do I lose them if I don't use them by the end of the year?
They are good through next year if you select them now (until 12/31/2019).
Suite nights or night credits? I'm asking for the night credits ie counter towards status not free nights/upgrades. It says only add to 2018 total right now.
Regardless of whether you make the selection now or in Jan - the nights will be credited for 2018 since 2018 is the Eligible Calendar Year - see 3 below.
Dang, that makes those pretty useless to me. Oh well, thanks.
I'm wondering if this may or may not be very well enforced in the system. I might do my final stay finishing December 29. That might unlock my Choice Benefit only after the new year when my stay posts. Maybe it will be applied to the new year anyway?
I'm new to Marriott status just this year... I wish I had waited until the bitter end of gathering my nights for Platinum Premier. Since there are no rollover nights in 2019, having anything above 75 is kind of silly. With my current nights and future nights from bookings I'll have 79 nights on 12/24. I actually need a hotel room 12/25-12/29... If I book with Marriott, the birthday night I just got and those 5 nights I picked are in effect worthless. Really a huge mistake to have selected the 5 elite nights early. At least I should have waited until very late december to decide if I needed them. I wouldn't have probably... Arrrghhhh!!! I think I'm going to cancel a few nights just to feel better and go with a lower cost hotel or start start building with Hilton or Hyatt.. Bad idea to get rid of rollover elite nights Marriott! Squashes all motivation to book with Marriott....
On the other hand, you are now earning a much larger points bonus for the nights you stay after the 75 nights. 75% bonus versus the 50% bonus for Platinum members. You'll be happy next year when you can use those points for some free nights. Don't forget you also now have additional suite nights or a free night for reaching 75. You could use the free night anytime from now to the end of next year. You could use suite nights to try to upgrade your stay for 12/25 to 12/29
kalo925 No offense, but it seems a bit silly to feel that you are better booking a lower hotel after you reach the elite status tier you wanted. As fuzzybass indicates, you now start to get more bonus points and can enjoy the PPE treatment that you worked so hard to attain. If you stay with Marriott, now you have a better chance at an upgrade, better welcome gift, bonus points at 75%, breakfast benefits.... current megabonus (albeit a stingy one). Isn't the whole point of attaining a status to enjoy the benefits of being at that status during your stays?
I agree with you that I "wish" they retained the rollover nights. I will end this year with almost enough rollover nights to achieve the continuation of PPE / Titanium status qualification for the following year (I only achieved LTP, not LTPP), but unfortunately will start all over again in 2019. But that is not causing me to book elsewhere - because I enjoy the benefits of the status I have today.
My suggestion is to stop chasing the status and start enjoying it. Give a Marriott property an opportunity to *WOW* you... and don't be afraid to ask them to do it.
I'm heading into year three of the 75+ night status (Platinum now PPE) and the welcome gifts are very infrequently given, and often underwhelming (oh nice a 16 oz room temp water and a piece of candy, how thoughtful!) at the business class and even at the Delta and Marriott level. My most recent trip to a Courtyard I had to remind them that the free breakfast is daily for P+. The system only works if you beg them for it or the clerks are conscious of it, I think in 2018 the computer should tell them that I'm PPE and I get this I shouldn't have to ask or know it myself. The lounge access is nice but you only get that at FS and above. Plus, unless you are going to the downtown or airport of a major metro you're not going to find a FS Marriott and be in business class. The PPE treatment at the lower tier Marriott's is only marginal better than a first time customer's. 75% points is nice and I do use those for free nights a lot but that at this point is about the only benefit I routinely actually get.
There are still a lot of bugs behind the scenes to be resolved. Showing the right status is still an issue (most of the hotel personnel thinks the new PPE is LTP) and hotels have no way to post eligible expenses (bar/restaurant) to an account for a member that doesn't have a room (which is a new benefit).
Thanks for this post! I had the same questions recently and figured out what was stated here. I think im going with the 5 SNA and free night. I was withholding my selections until I know if I needed them to maintain PPE but it looks like ill hit 75 for sure and maybe 77.
So far, I have only been able to use “suite night upgrade” once. Almost every reservation says “not available for this reservation” no explanation why and only reveals this info after the reservation has been made. PPE LTP
