On my last stay, not only was I not offered a welcome gift, but the hostess didn’t even know what it was when I asked about it.
Not enough info provided to know if you specifically should have been offered a welcome gift. If you are a Gold+ Elite Marriott member that stated at one of the 29 branded Marriott hotels, then yes, you should have been offered a welcome gift. You can look at the Marriott Member Benefits to know what those welcome gifts are.
Not your issue if the hotel staff has no idea what it is, but if you aren't offered, you are also entitled to a Elite Benefit Guarantee (that you should ask for while still at the hotel). If you do not know what those are, google "Marriott Elite Benefit Guarantees", bookmark it, and keep it somewhere handy and/or memorize it. If hotels do not provide elite benefits that you should get, but you also don't know what they are, then the hotel continues not knowing any better, and you continue not getting benefits you are entitled to. You can also search Insiders for various threads about "Welcome Gifts" or "Elite Benefits Guarantees" and instances of various members not getting them, not being offered, and also having issues recouping them. This should give you some insight on how other members have dealt with these type of situations.
