Marriott Points Advance Reservation

I had made a reservation using Marriott Points Advance prior to August 18. It was confirmed by Marriott per The Points Guy that Marriott will honor the lower points. I called the Platinum elite customer service and was told by the representative that ALL reservations without a certificate will be charged using the new points category. She also said that Marriott sent a mass e-mail regarding this change but I personally didn't receive that e-mail. Does anyone have the same experience?
