From my perspective it has been very successful as a customer and investor.
News outlets need to have content and eyeballs to read it. Lots of "Click-bait" being used to get as many eyeballs as possible. The merger has provided these outlets a convenient and steady source of customer feedback both positive and negative. Not to worry, in a few months they will have to begin inventing new salacious allegations to stay relevant on the web.
I tend to agree with you globaltreker. It has been frustrating at times and taken longer than anticipated to merge, but now-a-days just about anything can be blown up by internet medit to be more salacious than it actually is. It is the business model they use.

Yup, is 85 nights so far on a Marriott bed and 126 bonus nights from 25 CC and 101 rollover. Drinking the kool aid all the way to my new suite nights and 1 night PP reward.

@globaltreker I bet January 1st will sting a bit without rollover though. We all still need to work through 50/75 for choice awards next year though the excess stays beyond top status this year....

I have been in the program 21 years now and 19 of those have been as a PP. As such, I never really cared or needed rollover or status for anything and now as of August 18, 2018 Marriott has gifted me LTPP. What really is not to be happy about?
Today sitting here at over 4K nights and over 10M points in the program, I am in need of nothing and Marriott keeps giving us new gifts to enjoy. What's not to be positive about from where I sit?
I'm in the top 1% of the 110 million current customer base. No issues to report from my vantagepoint.
1985 was the first year of my Marriott Honored Guest (remember that?) membership; still like that name. Now in my senior years I am LTPP after 986 nights, 16 years of Platinum Elite status, and ???? lifetime points (really nice to see that number again). These totals are after account merging. My experience in merging accounts was excellent (knock on wood). SPG even was able to find several years from the early 90's of Sheraton Gold to add to the totals. As many months of nights were at Residence Inns my total points are less that two million (at last check), but still in all, I am a happy camper. Now to see if performance marches expectations. Recent travels in Europe (The Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey) rooms were upgraded to at least junior suites; except for one night in the Brussels Sheraton Airport, and one night at the Renaissance Polat Istanbul (airline courtesy stay, lounge access was provided).

There was another user who accused the "mouthpieces" of being Marriott employees. With everything going on, it's sometimes hard to remember who said what. In any case, this is at least the second time that "accusation" has been made about some members of the community whose only affiliation with Marriott is as customers and/or investors.

wannabetitanium - Gosh, what is so important about your opinions that makes you so sure those that don’t share their them must be PAID not to? Your implication is that somebody is being at the very least deliberately disingenuous, a dreadful allegation. This grows thin quickly. There are no shills or stooges here, the Marriott Reps are clearly marked out as the moderators. The rest of us travel and stay at Marriott - a lot!
So how do we remain positive about Marriott Rewards? Well we share tips and tricks here, between us all we’ve explored every nook and crannie of the scheme and found it’s black spots which we share and hence avoid, and sweet spots that we share and all benefit from.
The new scheme has brought many positives, just a few of which I’ll relate, increased point earnings, increased welcome amenities, increased credit card earnings (tripled here in the U.K.), late checkouts and more. But it’s brought negatives too, amongst which are big increases on gateway city and resort redemptions with a handful almost doubling, cuts to several SPG high-earning opportunities, and replacement of SPGs more flexible BRG with Marriotts stricter LNF.
Even some of the negatives have silver linings, SPGs BRG May have gone, but the Marriotts LNF equivalent has a bigger 25% discount instead of SPGs 20%. Yes, Resorts and gateway city redemptions have increased but overall costs of redemptions have decreased, so there’s redemption value to be found out there, and you betcha we’ll find it on this forum! This forum is about sharing the best ways to make the most of the program.
Imagine if you could travel around the world avoiding the bad bits and getting just the good bits, and make every travel $ go 50%+ further? Well, mine do! Collecting Marriott points and taking advantage of the bright spots on the program makes every one of my travel $ into 50% more value! And frequently more, so much more. Take my 2-week visit to Florida earlier this year. Me and the wife wanted to stay within walking distance of Epcot. We could have stayed at the Yacht or Beach Club at $7,000 room only for the 2 weeks. Instead I booked the Sheraton Dolphin next door for $5,000. Then I LNF’d it down to $2,000. Then when I checked in I got free breakfast vouchers for the entire stay saving $500. And when I walked into my room I found I’d been upgraded to a full suite that sells for another $100/nt, that’s $1,400 of extra value. And when I finally checked out I walked away with 40,000 Marriott points worth another $400! I make that Marriott option $2,000 cheaper than the $7,000 alternative, then reducing that $5,000 bill by $3,000 to $2,000 and getting upgrades, points and breakfast worth $2,300. But that’s it, eh, shills like me always lying to disambiguate.
No Kool Aid needed, this program provides excellent value if you know how to leverage it. But I guess you’re just not interested in listening to stooges and shills like me! Anyhow, good talking to you, gotta get down the company subsidised cafe to hatch more diabolical disingenuous plans, eh?
I was joking around, which is hard to tell on forums sometimes. Never seen him post one thing that could be perceived as slightly negative. If I wasn’t a Marriott fan I wouldn’t be here, I haven’t stayed at another brand in years.
Its Psychology really. Negative information is shared 10x more than positive.
I choose to focus on the positive aspects of the program so I can make the most of my investment in experiences for business and holiday travel. Regrettably, a reader on this forum who chooses to focus their time and energy on the negative headlines of the day, might miss incredibly helpful information shared in this community. Balance and perspective is important.
Just not interested in "what doesn't work" in the program but how I can leverage "what does" to my advantage!
I remember being tagged with the moniker "sock puppet" for posting comments praising Marriott. Never mind my occasional diatribes against the IT difficulties that surrounded virtually all MegaBonus. I won't dig up the threads here, but some of you remember.
I will say you'd be hard pressed to find one of the regular Insiders who hasn't criticized Marriott on more than one occasion. While we are often be effusive with our praise, we can also be scathing with our scorn when seemingly simple things get messed up. Anyone who is "all-in" for Marriott probably doesn't have much experience with the company. Likewise, those who are convinced Marriott can do nothing right are not seeing the whole picture.
There's nothing wrong with a wide range of opinions on their site. The only question I have for those how claim some of us have "drunk too much Kool Aid" or that we are paid shills for Marriott is this: If you hate Marriott so much, why are you spending any of your hard earned money with them and so much of your precious time on a forum devoted to Marriott loyalty? If I felt that way, the company would not be getting one thin dime or a minute of my time.
Wow, writing all that made me thirsty. I could use a sip of that Kool Aid now (just a sip, mind you).
This reminds me how I usually data reduce reviews found here or on trip advisor etc. I generally throw out the highs and lows and focus on the middle. That is where you can find the real story. One thing I do like about MRI is people sharing their trips and travels and honest appraisal of the places they stay. Most of the time, it's pretty accurate.

I'm just upset that somehow my SPG number was used instead of my Marriott number that I've had for 4 years. I've never even stayed at a Starwood hotel, yet now my profile says I'm an SPG user and I have to update all of my booking accounts with a new rewards number because they got rid of my Marriott rewards number and can't switch me back. I just got the fancy Marriott credit card too with my MR# on it.
Back on subject, the article is more same old same old. However, I would say that the combination project was managed very poorly from a change management point of view. There was no communications of what was actually going to happen. Other than it is going to happen there was no details on what we should expect a week before transition day, on transition day, a week later and a month later. In this day there should be no surprizes, they had to test all this stuff and do sandbox runs, they knew what was going to happen, why not communicate it.
If you have not looked at your activity page in the last day or two, this notice now pops up. Thanks to communitymanagers for listening to our feedback and getting more information out there!
At little concerned that they aren't listing incorrect status as an issue any more, since there are clearly a number of people here still impacted.
Me, same old b* S* when you call, all will be well in a couple of days. If they dont have the data now where are they going to get it. Folks if it aint there youve lost it.
It clearly says "while the vast majority of member's accounts are showing accurate information, the remaining accounts will be fully restored in the coming weeks"
The best thing we all can do is have patience, if people with non-urgent issues would stop calling and emailing, it would help them serve the members with real issues. Staffing increases cost money, when everyone calls about silly stuff, the lines get flooded, and now Marriott has to bring in temps, to help reduce the backlog, and that only makes people get more frustrated, so now people call and send emails, and now they need more staff to answer more emails, and the real answer is the same in both cases. Your account is going to get fixed when it gets fixed.
Looking forward to learning from you all. I was pretty good at SPG, this seems to be a whole new ballgame! I just want my LPPE vs the incorrect LPE currently showing. No response from the emails I have sent, which is disappointing.
Welcome frensg and I'm sure you'll learn a lot here. I still use the search tool which helps in some instances. As for not getting a response to emails, I encourage you to call the platinum line instead. If the first customer support rep can't help keep calling until you get one that does. If you have any contacts at a Marriott/SPG hotel, don't be afraid to request help from them. They may be able to put you in contact with someone at corporate who is in a position to help. With everything that is going on, an email is easy to ignore at the moment. Good luck and I'll be looking to you for SPG hotel recommendations in the future. Cheers!
Thanks. I love the Sheraton in Recife, Brazil. It’s where I turned Lifetime Platinum with SPG! St. Regis in Bangkok is also very special, as I was there when it opened. Westin in Puerto Vallarta is also high on my list, I have been going there for years and they remember my name year after year. Looking forward to Marriott recommendations.
