Non-existent customer service

My Marriott and SPG accounts wont merge because my first name is slightly different on each account. So i must call to fix. Has anyone EVER spoken to a customer service person? Its maddening how the automated system keeps bouncing you around then finally you are left on hold indefinitely. I guarantee if I wanted their stupid credit card or book and conference room they would have picked up on the first ring. I am Platinum Premier and am using the dedicated phone number which i'm convinced goes to the same place as any other number. Also, I am at 676 lifetime nights and am 8 years platinum but am still shown as lifetime silver.
