Did I miss something or am I completely unable to navigate this program
Yep, whole new system. Normally you would find some helpful information on the "Support" webpage link above, but that is all about the old points system that has been replaced by the new badges and points leaders board. The new system is still too new but from what I can see, anytime you like, mark helpful, add a new post/content, make a poll, answer a question, respond to another user, etc, you earn 1 to 5 points that get updated immediately or sometimes only get updated in the twice-a-day jive update. Those participations points also go towards Badges. Once you pave enough participations points, you earn a badge, and then the badge awards you 50 points for the badge (at least I think) and again, sometime immediate and sometimes only at the twice-a-day update by Jive.
This twice-a-day thing makes it really difficult to tell how and when points are awarded because not all points are immediate, and the leader board is only updated twice a day.
When others interact with you, both you and that person receive points. The more interactions you have, the more participation points which means more badges, which means more points. For example, in one day you could actually have 30 participation activities but post very few points (30 to 150 depending on what the activity was). These participation points ALMOST complete five badges, but not quite. On the next day you do another 30 participation activities (30-150 points) and that pushes you over the top on 5 badges, each at 50 points, so that time you get the 30 to 150 participation points for your interactions and then another 250 points for the badges, so could easily hit 400 points in a matter of very few activities. Then when someone else participates with you, you start earning more points for their activity. It is kind of like Compounding Interest, it can grow exponentially and quickly.
Unfortunately, some believe that what I've been doing is gaming the system. Which is not true. I don't have it (the new points/badge system) completely figured out yet, and may be wrong on some my above assumptions, but that is about how I see the program working.
Yesterday I made probably 50 or so posts in various discussions, polls, questions, etc on the Insiders forum. I was trying to offer help to some Insiders that had just recently joined or where looking for help on the Merger because they hadn't been following things too closely. I gave out a lot of Helpfuls and Likes and I offered some advice, links, etc. I still don't fathom how, but my points exploded by over 1200 in one day. I was surprised because I actually had a great time helping some very frustrated Insiders. It was fun.
Unfortunately I upset a few others because they thought I was overwhelming the system with likes or accused of posting something just to get someone elses content off the top page or basically taking over the Insiders forum. From my seat that isn't true, I was responding to other Insiders for the most part. I put up some new content that I thought was important, but probably no more important than someone elses, and I gained a lot of points. I don't really care about that, I had a good time on the Forum. I hope you do as well. All the best.
Taking advantage of opportunities should not upset people especially when your info is helpful and relevant. I think WC Fields said he did not know the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. Keep up the good work.
