Next month I plan to be in Barcelona, Spain for a few days. Can anyone recommend sites to see?
There are many. many sites.
1. Las Ramblas is the pedestrian walking mall area.
2. La Sagrada Familia church, Gaudi is the architect, you buy tickets online.
3. Park Guell - beautiful park based upon Gaudi's architectural themes - buy tickets online
4. Palau de la Música: Choral and classical music concerts.
5. Picasso Museum Barcelona
There are many more.
Obviously, you can get ideas from various tours books like Frommer's and Fodors
We took a city biking tour that provided an overview and decided what we wanted to see in more detail.
Also, we signed up for a free walking tour - needless to say the tour guides anticipate receiving a tip.
Have fun- Great city.
Just returned from Barcelona (Stayed at the Renaissance Barcelona Fira) and Spain. When you visit the La Sagrada Familia church ( you most likely will need reservations in advance ) walk up or take a taxi to Gaudi's La Pedrera- it is a total work of art.
Lots to to do and sea and eat in Barcelona - enjoy!
Was there 2 weeks ago (Stayed at the Renaissance Barcelona - nice hotel).
I would agree with the whole list above, all but Parc Guell are reasonable walks from most of the downtown hotels. I would definitely leave some time for the beach as well.
The Hop on Hop off bus is a great way to get oriented and get to a lot of the just outside the city center destinations.
If you a Dali fan, I strongly recommend at taking a tour to Figueres (musuem) and Portlligat (his house), this is an all day y tour but totally worth it.
No shortage of beautiful, interesting architecture in Barcelona
Familia to me is a must
One more comment that i always do when traveling overseas. I log onto trip advisor and hit restaurants near me and up comes by distance places with reviews. We stayed at the cotton house and found a nice small tapas restaurant nearby with no tourist
The area that we went to for Restaurants was El Born. There are great restaurants everywhere. When we walking we came across many, especially when you walk down the many alleys. I mentioned before that we took a city bike ride and we ended at Barceloneta Beach at Sal Café. The food was good, but the view was great.
The metro system is very good and pretty easy to use. We took it everywhere and that is the way to go to Parc Guell if you staying downtown. If you have nice day at the park it is a beautiful place to walk around and the views looking down on the city and out to the sea are just spectacular.
Many great suggestions, above. I might also add:
