Hi. Newbie here. Anyone know how I can unlink my SPG and Marriott accounts?
A Linked Member may unlink his or her member accounts at any time by calling (SPG) 1-888-625-4988, (Marriott Rewards)
1-801-468-4000, or (The Ritz-Carlton Rewards) 1-866-922-6882, and the accounts will be unlinked within 48 hours of the Operators’ receipt of such request. Global contact information for customer care can be found at: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/support/index.html
Any benefits that were being provided pursuant to these Terms and Conditions would be forfeited (including status matching) as of the time that the accounts are unlinked.
ronco17 - just curious why you would want to unlink your accounts. The only reason I am asking is that some people seem to be confusing "linking" (a mechanism whereby you can transfer points between the two programmes and enjoy mutual benefits at the two chains) with "merging" ( a process to be available from August 1 whereby a member can combine their nights (both lifetime and current year) and current year points (Marriott at 1:1 and Starwood at 1:3) into the new Marriott programme, and thereafter be a part of that new programme. Members who choose not to merge will keep separate accounts and remain on the old programmes (on the old "legacy"rules), till Marriott automatically merges accounts after December 31 2018. I am not aware of any downside to account linking, whereas the decision to merge accounts will require a lot of careful thought for many members.
Same question ronco17 - your linked accounts is not the same thing as merging them in the new combined program. Why would you want to unlink them? You still have to merge them for the new program, or have them auto-merged early next year.
linking = ability to transfer points between Marriott & SPG bi-directionally, as 2 separate accounts (Marriott Rewards and SPG legacy accounts)
merging = creating ONE combined account in the new rewards program
