Just wonering if I should do it now as I should be get before the end of the year.
As I understand it SPG points transferred directly into a MR account do NOT count for lifetime status. If you are able to qualify under "legacy" rules then that is the safest thing for you. Do NOT merge your accounts in August or any time till you achieve Marriott LTP - you will then achieve LTPP in January. There is a way of "laundering" SPG points via a family member's SPG account, but in your situation it seems unnecessary.
****... What do I do then if I have merged my SPG account but I have done nothing else?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Hi annsholbrook - so far all you can do is "link" your accounts - which allows transfers of points between the two accounts. In August you will have the OPTION to merge your accounts. If you take that option your two accounts will be merged into one "new" account and you will no longer be able to qualify for lifetime status under the old "legacy" rules in either programme, instead you will be able to qualify under the new lifetime rules. For some people, staying in the old programme will allow them to qualify by the end of December for their lifetime status. There are other people who will be better off merging and combining their nights and years at a particular level to qualify under the new programme. People just have to be careful about making the decision to merge because we suspect once you have merged there will be no going back. At the end of December or shortly thereafter accounts of those who have chosen not to merge will be merged automatically by Marriott.
THANKS so much for your help and yes I linked the accounts for both my wife and I , I am just glad I did not mess up to much. I am hoping to make it under the old program so this is great help for me.
If your wife has points in her account, you can transfer her Marriott Rewards points to your account to boost your Lifetime balance enough. But, her account Lifetime Balance will be deducted by what she transfers, so if she is close like you are, that won't work. If you have United FF Miles, transfer those to Marriott. You can transfer up to 50,000 miles for 50,000 points at 1:1 and they would count as lifetime points for Marriott. Hope that helps! Of course this is only if all else fails and it is November.
so_close new rewards program ltpp ltp transfer points #ua points transfer
Sounds like a plan. I will not merge my accounts in August and will just make sure I get to LTPP the regular way before January. Should not be a problem, Only 24k away and have 6 months to do it.
A direct transfer from your own SPG account doesn’t count towards lifetime status.
Agree with normanp totally here. I'm assuming you will naturally get the 24k MR points prior to the end of 2018? You have until 31 December 2018 to earn the points (not 1 August 2018), so if you are going to get them over the next 6 months before 1 January 2019, there's no reason to do anything at all, except continue naturally earning!
Yes, 24k will be no problem to get in 6 months. Thanks!
