Looking for input on the best Marriott properties (or SPG) in Hawaii?
How do you define “best”?
Fancy/posh? Far from touristy areas? Ability to commune with nature? Luxurious spa? Best value/inexpensive?
Yep, when we are talking about "Hawaii" and including SPG and Marriott properties that is a lot of options. I like the Courtyard in Lihue based on my travel style but a lot of people here would never stay there. It definitely helps to know their criteria for best.
The short answer is that you cannot go wrong in Hawaii. I have stayed at many of them and all offer different venues. My favorites have the resort at Ko Olina on the island of Oahu, Lihue in Kauai, Poipu in Kauai. I have been to Maui, not a Marriott near Lahaina and the big island (Hawaii, also not a Marriott) on the Kona side. Each island is fabulous and offers different sightseeing activities. I guess the big island may not a good option today with the volcanic eruption.
A small disagreement on the Big Island comment. First, the Marriott Waikaloa and the Mauna Kea Autograph Collection are on the "Kona Side" if you talk about the sides as Kona side and Hilo side as Waikaloa and the Kohala Coast are certainly on the side that Kona is on. Secondly, the King Kamehameha is a Courtyard and is actually in Kailua Kona which certainly qualifies as Kona side. Have stayed at all three and as first replies requested we need to know criteria for "best". For certain trips or stays each of these (as have properties on other Islands) been my "best" choice.
The vog may be a little worse right now but Kilauea is quite a way from Waikaloa. I wouldn't be scared off.
We loved Marriott Vacation club at Ko Olina on Oahu. We spent 5 nights there & then 4 at the Waikiki Beach Marriott and Ko Olina was exactly what we were looking for in a family vacation.

kauai lagoons for relaxing
It would help to know which island you want to visit. I'll offer two possible option.
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel - Autograph property par excellence
Koloa Landing - Autograph Collection property on Kauai
I can think of several SPG properties that would be worth exploring as well.
I've stayed at many Marriotts on all four of the major Hawaiian islands. And my vote is 100% the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the big island. The big island is not my favorite island, but the hotel is the best Marriott has to offer.
