This was just posted on BoardingArea. While not fact, and still considered rumor, it makes a lot of sense. Thoughts?

Marriott Preferred Guest!
The tiers are an interesting "rumor". I wonder if Gold will then be reduced to no breakfast. Do golds get free breakfast and lounge access currently at SPG?
The new elite tiers for the combined program would be as follows:
Still in a wait and see mode. Although I do wonder exactly when they'll start their investment in the technology Arne mentions!
Definitely still wait and see, but I’d expect by now that the vast majority of decisions concerning MPG will have been made. Is it possible that we might get some details from a big cheese at DoubleTIPPLE? That would be interesting...
I made a very strong effort to get to lifetime gold before the 2 programs merge. If my now lifetime gold benefits are downgraded with the new program I will bid Marriott/SPG goodbye forever. Peoples loyalty should be rewarded, not downgraded.
Personally I don’t believe the rumour, the levels are set too low for a company offering so many properties.
I’d reckon the maths would support:
Silver 20 nights or 10 stays
Gold 40 nights or 25 stays
Platinum 80 nights or 50 stays
Ambassador 150 nights or 100 stays
Certainly I will consider my response only when I’m aware of all aspects of the new scheme - but lets face it, the Starriott Steamroller won’t be bothered about BrightlyBob’s reaction, much as I’d like to think Arne is monitoring my every utterance!
These numbers fall in line with SPG hotel numbers. Which is weird as their are no where near as many properties as Marriott.
Second, looks like new Plat = old Gold
Sigh, looks like I need to get 13 more nights to secure lifetime plat before August.
Sad, that I had to earn this status the hard way to have it devalued.
I agree. Plus, no indication of what Lifetime will require (perhaps 750 nights/3 million points/15 years of loyalty) but I believe the future of both programs will separate Lifetime Benefits with an additional tier so that as you reach lifetime, you'll still have an upper target to achieve on a yearly basis, like Ambassador Level, that will never be a lifetime benefit. So in essence, to achieve the highest tier, you have to stay at least 100 nights and spend $15K each year for some al-la-cart menu of benefits like the current SPG program has.
Interesting to speculate on rumors, but I'll wait until the announcement from Marriott.
How many times did we hear that a category 10 was just around the corner?
There will be plenty of time to discuss the pros and cons once we hear something more than rumors.
This has been published also here:
Marriott Rewards Announcement Coming Next Week & Programs (SPG/Marriott/Ritz-Carlton Rewards) Combined In August (Info L…
It looks like a pretty solid rumor.
Is it a solid rumor or is everyone just copying the details from whomever posted it first? I suppose it doesn't matter. Some of it is probably true (maybe all of it) but until we know what the benefits are at these reported new levels, it doesn't tell us much.
Well, there couldn't be a better time to TIPPLE! We have lots to talk about!!!
If the big news is being dropped next week (hopefully we'll have the scoop on Insiders!), there is definitely going to be lots of discussion at T2!
Hopefully they'll actually submit the answers on Insiders.
My main thought is, why tell people on Facebook messenger that the announcement is coming, but not share it here?
I’ll reserve judgment until an official pronouncement is made. At the moment, it’s much ado about nothing.
As far as the tier specs are concerned the rumour mill is working on just one flyertalk post, repeatedly blogged, but insofar as something is afoot, well that’s based on at least 3 seperate sources, the spec rumour, a signup tweet for news next week and a different flyertalker indicating he’s going to some Marriott press event next week concerning the rewards program.
I very much remember the enormous kerfuffle a few years ago caused by a rumour set in motion on this very website that ignited across the blogosphere necessitating Marriott formally publishing a denial across social media, so put away those pitchforks folks! Well, you might want to sit in your shed and sharpen the prongs though, just to cover all bases...
Dead on bbob. The last go 'round 2015 Devaluation (rumor mill) generated a whole bunch of 'buzz' (most of it misdirected) and finally was squashed once we starting (properly so IMO) accusing Marriott of allowing it to get out of hand - meaning they could have ended it, far sooner - but that's a different story.
I'm with the gang who says let's wait it out (and it certainly appears the wait might be for only a few days - of all the stuff reported, the meeting on Monday seems to be the most credible). Plus, as several have already written, even if what has been 'leaked' is close to reality - no terms of much of anything have been shared, so the impact is so potentially wide that little can be determined at this point anyway.
Let's make sure our best Twitter players are on it and keep us posted. I myself will be in Burbank watching the Conan O'Brien show (look for me, I'll be dressed as a strawberry...wait, Mrs. Erc says that's for Let's Make a Deal, never mind, I'll no doubt be placed in the back rows out of sight with the three other old farts).
Keep on keepin' on Insiders - lots goin' down
By “meeting” do we mean “news conference “?
Per agreement with brightlybob, if it’s good news then we praise him, but if it’s bad news, we blame bejacob
Hold on verysuiteboy. That proviso applies only to TIPPLE related items. Don't blame me for general bad new related to MR. My shoulders aren't broad enough to support the IT woes, the MegaBonus problems, points devaluation, or the rest of that stuff.
If Double TIPPLE is a massive failure, I take the blame. If it's a huge success, brightlybob gets all the credit. That's all I signed up for.
Bbob is behind it all - he told me to respond in the following fashion:
Good question Platboy - as far as I've gotten (and most of it came from a post I made mid-week last week) I can only say it is at least an announcement (but one where loyalty members might well be in attendance - so you make the call - conference or meeting, as shown in the photo below........).
In spite of b.e.'s generous compliment on my HQ visit post, I'm really like Sgt. Schultz
Well, actually, I do know one thing - Marriott is acting as if they are irritated at the leak;
1) Remember I said, 'acting' - what does that mean? (see Sgt. Schultz photo above)
2) Even if they truly are irritated - Is it because it is bad data or is it because it is accurate and they didn't want it out?
3) Even if it is accurate data - what the heck does it do for us knowing it? We don't know any of the benefits of the specific levels.
and so on, and so on. Even my pals who say I'll like the outcome, fall under my Trust but Verify approach, so I'm certainly not doing back flips...yet.
Fun times had by all - I'm glad I'm actually busy today doing reconnaissance work (prince of a guy that I am ) at The Wharf for DT, this stuff makes my head explode (as in - yeah, Marriott can keep their word by honoring your Lifetime status - but what if that status means a different level of benefits than before? etc etc etc).
We're having some fun now, aren't we....yeeehaw!
Someone kindly post on Monday - what's what and we'll keep on keepin' on from there .
What's the point of Insiders if we can't get any inside information? At the end of the day, everyone here will get info at the same time as everyone else in the world, despite the fact that many on here devote a lot of time to contributing (not so much time from yours truly). Just saying...maybe moderator should release some goods. Seems only fair.
There are many, many who agree with you, but sadly as much as we've tried to encourage management to share non-proprietary breaking news with us at least concurrently, if not first, (with what we thought would be in the name of goal congruency in building active participation) we have failed.
And now with the being promoted (a well deserved recognition, she initiated several nice touches all the while battling Jive's mind-boggling quirks) and not being replaced (our blog, to Marriott's credit, always allowing for criticism of Marriott practices, is now being addressed by a consortium**) we've got virtually no chance of 'being on the Inside'.
**Some members of the 'consortium' are scheduled to appear at the DT (but we must remember, they are essentially only messengers, not policy makers).
Good concept. If someone who can actually provide worthwhile info does appear at DT, then certainly, he or she is coming with the awareness of our level of interest in any announced/forecasted changes. Probably our best approach as far as obtaining the most relevant insights, is to all come mentally prepared to discuss whatever issues we value, being prepared to politely discuss to the host's level of interest in a casual, less formal way than Luther's 95 Fry Their Fanny list, nailed to the bar.
Well, if somewhat tardily, responded Agent erc.
You are proving an asset of improving value, currently estimated at $1.
Amazing discussion about a rumour.

Insiders is just a name. It's a forum, it's visible to the entire public internet. It's not really that "inside."
