Does anyone know that if we convert our Spg points into Marriott points, will these points be considered for your lifetime status qualification?
thanks erc . was looking to convert my spg points to Marriott since i am shy on points to get to lifetime gold. looks like an extra year for me now...
I'm in the same position. Wish I could convert my AMEX points to SPG and then over to Marriott. Need a few hundred thousand points for LTG. Nights aren't a problem. Oh well.
I could have misunderstood, but I seem to remember reading in a thread sometime ago that someone had transferred the SPG points to a family member's SPG account then the family member had transferred them into their MR account and then into the MR account of the originator. I don't understand MR rules well enough to know whether they would then count towards lifetime status.
normanp, you are correct, we got a lesson in points arbitrage that was guaranteed to work. So long as the family member doesn’t mind the transaction, knowing that the points will add to, and then subtract from, their own lifetime totals, you are all good. If I recall correctly, it had to be under the auspice of a transfer to cover a purchase (travel package etc).
I recall the discussion. Lots of steps and would have to open SPG and Marriott accounts for another family member. But will keep in mind if I need to take action.
Correct, the direct answer of transferring your own SPG points to your own MR account - NO. If you can transfer the points to another member (preferably a spouse or family member at the same address) - YES (with some caveats).
Here's my comment in the appropriate thread: https://insiders.marriott.com /thread/51654#comment-231982
Took the advice from o0o0o0o0o0o...points! and it worked like a charm!
