There are some properties that charge an arm and a leg for parking. What are your thoughts on being able to use points to pay for parking? This would be especially useful in Big cities like NYC, PHL, LA etc.
sibsteam, I like the idea! I'd like to be able to defray any additional costs associated with my redemption stays. I guess the most difficult element to this would be currency exchange with the parking companies. Many of the parking operations are third-party owned, so Marriott would have to convert points to cash to pay them. I suspect they'd lose out on that deal, and therefore would be unlikely to do it.
You could always use the Instant Redemption program to use points to deduct specific cash amounts off your hotel bill which in theory you could use to offset the additional parking cost. Instant Redemption is not the best use of points but if you have points to burn it's worth considering.
Seriously would need a lot of points to burn to make that worthwhile.
A reasonable estimate is that 100 MR points is worth $1 (your mileage will vary, some use more some use less), but that maps to a $300 a night room for 30K points. I've paid more, and I've paid less. Makes the math easy. 10K points for $100 room, but that it 35K points for $100 "credit"
That is quite the premium
Parking should not be charged unless you are not staying at the property.
