Do I get Marriott points for eating a meal at a hotel without staying there?
hawk99, regrettably, the present answer is no, unless you are using your Marriott credit card, in which case you earn your 5x points on the meals. I wish this were different. This was an objective that Thom Kozik (former VP of Global Rewards) discussed with us at last year’s Insider event. His aspiration was that we should get credits for the non-staying meals and entertainment that so many of us do on Marriott properties. His rhetorical question was, ”why shouldn’t I get points for the $10k I spent last year entertaining clients at the Ritz?” I totally agree. Alas, it doesn’t seem that will come to pass, unless there is something new in the works with the merged programs in 2019.
or SPG card, or Ritz Card, or Ultimate Rewards card(s)... basically, any card that you can get transferable points back to Marriott, you can indirectly earn Marriott Rewards points. Just be sure if you care about lifetime status, that you transfer them back to your Marriott Rewards account in a manner in which they will still count toward your lifetime status. And beware of the transfer ratios - not all rewards are equal (point for point).
