Up to 40K SPG points at 35% off. Anyone doing this?
Close, but no cigar for me. Last year they had a sale ranging from 20% to 50% (unfortunately I got the 35% offer, studied it, and decided, almost). I would purchase at 50% off and could see scenarios where 35% would be good values as well.
I'm trying hard to get involved with Starwood brands before what I believe will be the 'Marriottizing' (used not in the pejorative sense, just the realistic sense) of the brand; IMO, either tightening of the cost/benefit scenario or what I see more likely, a higher level of elite status which I won't qualify for.
40kSPG at 2.1c 2.3c per point is equivalent to 0.75c per Marriott point and I could certainly do some damage with that!
If you took the View you were buying for a Travel Package and could repeat the feat in 2018 you’d be buying 80kSPG that transfers to 240kMR. Add 30kMR from your own stash and you’ve got a 7-day cert and more importantly 132kUA, time the transfer to UA for this time next year and it could be 157,000UA, all for only $1,680 $1820. Thats some value, there!
EDIT: Oops my original figures were based on 40% reduction. I’ve corrected to reflect 35%. Thanks to eagle-eyed erc
brightlybob what value do you use for MR points in your internal calculations, I typically use 1c (pretty close and makes the math trivial)
I know it depends on what level property you typically redeem for, mine are almost always cat 7-9
I virtually never redeem below 1 US cent per point and will almost always redeem above 1 UK penny. Between the two lies decisions about number of points in my account and my future travel prospects. So I value my points at 1UScent, though now my MR stash is below 100k so I’d be looking at nearer 1p to tempt me...
Not that I care (it's giving me a headache), but I saw 30k as the maximum purchase allowed on the Starwood site.
30,000 for $682.50 (or 2.275 cents per point). Just an FYI. Work it out with your lawyer above at $300 an hour .
I thought the same thing, so someone posted this on flyertalk: https://storefront.points.com/spg/en-US/buy?promoCode=DISLIMINC
Good info (30-40k also at 2.275 cents). Also keep in mind, I think the UA bonus (which is an excellent bonus) ends this year, if not this month.
That’s why I advised to time the redemption for this time next year, to hopefully catch what is pretty well an annual UA bonus transfer offer that seems to occur every Autumn...
Yup, UA bonus ends Nov 30th.
Well spotted. I worked from my discount last time which was 40% and not this 35% - my mistake, I confess m’lud...
I bought it last year at 50% off but I will have to take a pass at this one as 2 big trips coming up aruba and arizona. 120k marriott points at 910 is a big plus. Also if you use Amex SPG you get extra point as in effect you will get 125460 points for 910$.
