Has anyone heard anything regarding what will be happening when the MR and SPG loyalty programs merge? I'm also curious as to how the members of the two programs feel it will impact them...
No updates lately, but there are several threads on this topic:
As well as several more threads...search around, there are hours of reading material on insiders with various aspects of the merger.
While these are mostly related. I've read most but was hoping for something a little newer. At this point, I guess it would be mostly conjecture, though.
Only possible expected announcement - Marriwood/Starriott said they should be able to announce the new credit card deal by 2018, which leaves just over 45 days. They have also said they hope to announce info the direction of the Rewards program by the end of the year also, but they've been less definitive with that date. So, I'm sticking with what I said earlier in the year - probably an announcement on both sometime in 2018, with the integrated rewards program taking effect in 2019. Those trying to achieve LT status probably have through 2018 to do so, but I do not believe LT nights will be combined - Marriwood has basically hinted "Hey, we are giving you the opportunity to reach LT now in the separate programs", indirectly hinting that there won't be a 1-for-1 night combination between programs.
The credit card will probably be announced either at the same time, or slightly before - in theory, the credit card benefits should depend (somewhat) on the finality of the rewards program, if their will be a new credit card. They could by more time however by just leaving the credit card deals the same. I noted in another thread somewhere (and I'm going from memory, so I could have the years wrong) that one credit card deal expires in 2018, the other expires in 2020, so it would be easy to just stay the course and let the one deal expire in 2018 and do a credit card rebranding/launch at that time.
