Hey all -
Has anybody done a MOXY hotel? Just wondering peoples thoughts. It seems alot like the AC Hotels - I stayed at an AC in Portland, OR and looking at the pictures of the MOXY, it looks similar.
Have stayed in three different Moxy's in Germany. They are all very, very similar. A bit hip for me, but they seem to provide all the essentials.
I believe they are different than the ACs in Germany. I prefer the ACs as they seem to be a bit more traditional.
Just stayed at the Moxy - Munich Airport. It was a lovely stay. Here's what I liked:
Obviously the Moxy design is for younger folks. However, this 60 something loved the open concept and the many different "stations" on the main level to connect and work.
They tout no coffeemakers or kettles in rooms, which is a significant minus to me.
I believe that is by design. The Moxy brand was envisioned for Millennials who prefer to eat and drink in a social space not a bedroom.
I've stayed at Moxy, but it is probably at the bottom of my preferences within the Marriott portfolio.
I believe it is Marriott's attempt to hit the hostel crowd and get them into hotels. Small rooms, even smaller bathrooms, and not all the amenities in the room you may expect as someone else mentioned, there is no coffeemaker. Instead of a closet, there are pegs on the wall, and although there is no iron in the room, there is a community ironing room. One of the slogans they had written was that self-service is the best service.
The attitude of the hotel screams young, and single. The front desk was connected to a large bar so the front desk staff could double as bartenders. The Privacy card for the door had a pic of a guy in his underwear with tattoos across his body that said "Do not disturb" in various languages.
The overall look of the lobby also reminded me of my college days travelling across Europe in Hostels, with one wall covered in lockers and community workspace/loungespace.
I'm not knocking it and the price is usually great, but I can imagine that if you are expecting an AC, you will be surprised. I will likely stay again at some point, but this next time, I will go in with my eyes open and knowing what to expect.
