Once upon a time the Marriott core customer was, I believe, the business traveler on a short business trip. Of course, there were only full-service Marriott hotels in that period. No loyalty programs, no lounges, just rooms with show shiners, etc. Marriott expanded, added new brands, got much bigger. More folks traveling with families on leisure trips, sometimes paired with business. Today with all of the Marriott brands, it seems that Marriott might be catering to a different demographic, one that I am not in (maybe never was), the millennial. Desks are disappearing in some brands, closets too. Rooms are being reconfigured with a view toward making them sleeping rooms, not much else.
What then is the group that Marriott caters to the most? Are you in that group? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
