Will my SPG nights/activity be counted when calculating my next years Marriott Rewards level? I've connected my Marriott and SPG accounts online.
Thanks for reaching out. Please see the below from the FAQs, which can be found at the following link: http://members.marriott.com/faq/.
We anticipate that all three Loyalty programs will continue to run separately through early 2018, and your accounts remain separate. You’ll only earn credit for stays at a hotel if you’re enrolled in the program associated with that hotel, so it’s a good idea to sign up for both SPG and Rewards if you haven’t already.
As communitymanagers point out, the NIGHTS do not count or transfer between programs, so you can't expect 13 MR nights and 12 SPG nights to add up to 25 nights that you could move back or forth. BUT, your points are movable between programs, and that can be a great advantage depending on where you intend to use them and how you can accumulate them.
For example, the current SPG Explore More bonus gives you 1,000 SPG points per stay. That's equal to 3,000 MR points -- certainly a good deal. And if you have some kind of status like Gold or Platinum, you can increase your points earnings even more so that staying at an SPG property right now could be well worth it.
On the other hand, sometimes you will find a better deal on points stays at similar hotels across brands as I did in the Seattle area this autumn (stayed at a Residence Inn in Redmond for 5 days for 100,000 MR pts (by transferring 33,000 SPG pts.) instead of an Element hotel in Bellevue for 40,000 SPG pts (or 120,000 MR pts.)
So there are great benefits to be had, but just not for the counting of nights/stays. If you need nights for status, you'll need to be loyal to one program or the other. You just have to see what can be most advantageous for yourself as you plan ahead.
