Question, If I stay in a Sheraton property and would like Marriott points instead of Sheraton points, can I get them instead?
Does anyone have an answer?
Not yet. You can earn starwood points and convert them to marriott at a ratio 1: 3. Keep in mind your lifetime marriott total does not increase by transferred starwood points.
eh... not by a direct transfer, but there is a way to get them to count toward your lifetime total.
I would add, that the transfer is instant and they can be used immediately -- no waiting for a day or two fro the points to show up.
With the current SPG Explore More promotion you get 1,000 bonus points per stay in addition to any platinum amenity or Green Choice points that you will also add. And at 1:3 those SPG points add up quickly for MR points. My one night stay in Madison gleaned my 1,782 SPG pts + another 188 through my AMEX card = 1,970 Starpoints or 5,910 MR points -- not bad for a single night stay.
And while ks83 is correct about the points not counting toward lifetime status, it's still a pretty good deal!
Make sure that you have linked your MR and SPG accounts, or get an SPG account if you don't already have one. You'll get equivalent status and qualify for upgrades, etc. at SPG properties as well.
it is worth noting you can only transfer in 1k increments. Very annoying because I have like 950 starpoints I can't do anything with. Currently waiting for my Uber spend to get that to 1k so I can transfer.
how do you link the accounts
Here is a helpful link to assist in linking your Marriott and SPG accounts. -Link Marriott and Starwood Accounts | Marriott Rewards
