My badges are not showing up on my account. I'm staying at four different Marriotts in the next fire days and wanted to know if I would collect any new ones.
While badges are no longer visible on the US version of the Marriott site, try signing in at www.marriott.co.uk
You should be able to see which badges you've already earned.
Several Insiders have recently collected new badges, so it seems the program is still active. How much longer it continues is hard to guess.
eh, not totally gone on the U.S. side, I've seen them multiple times since my last post in another thread maybe a week or two ago. Saw it again today in fact - it's not consistent, but it's not completely dead yet! Got another badge yesterday, so whether you see them or not, you still get 2.5 points - oh, wait, I mean 25!
Wouldn't you know it. Today when I looked at the US site, the badges showed up. First time that's happened in several weeks.
I will tell you that I have spent more on hotels to earn the badges than I needed to. With the incentive gone I will veer away form the more expense accommodations on business trips (which is 99.% of my travel). What a simple, goofy, incentive that guaranteed members would spend more money chasing brands. This is disappointing, I really hope they reinstate it.
We've all learned long ago not to question Marriott's marketing approach toward their clientele - they know their stuff!
A tip of the cap for your refreshing candor, I'm quite sure you're not alone in your perspective (although for your sake, if you don't own your own firm, I hope your boss isn't an Insider - especially with your email as your sign in ).
Thanks for sharing and putting it in a 'real world' perspective for us.
ps- all of this stuff is why Behavioral Economist Richard Thaler won a Nobel about us consumers being human, not 'rational agents' (that economists insisted they were), including the concept of 'anchoring' - Marriott takes a normal posting of summer brand bonus that in today's Amazon type world should post with stay points, says it will be 6-8 weeks after end of program, comes in at 5 weeks after program and folks are doing backflips of joy - not criticizing anyone, just pointing out Thaler's contributions to the field of economics.
