How do I earn bonus nights?
What do you mean by bonus nights?
tbp, if you are referring to the nights detail dropdown, I will explain mine, and then you can hopefully take it from there. I have what are categorized as bonus nights 25 so far this year: promotional - 1 (for my birthday; I had to "accept it" by responding to an email sent to me); rewards credit card - 22 (15 are just for having an active and in good standing Chase Visa Marriott rewards card; the other 7 nights are accumulated 1 night for every $3,000 spent on the card); rewarding events - 0 ; Obviously I am not sure of this, but I believe it might be if you are the official organizer of an event at a Marriott? (Insiders/community, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong on that); 2016 rollover - 2 (I ended 2016 with 77 nights, anything over that rolls over to the next year; however, it is my understanding that those two rollover nights are then subtracted from this year end balance to determine what my next year's rollover will be. For example, assume I finish this year with 90 nights (it will be close to that); then next years rollover balance will be 90 (total) - 75 (platinum base) - 2(prior year rollover) giving me a rollover balance next year of 13. Hope that helps.
Edited - my apologies for getting the first letters of your name wrong the first time tpbreslinlaw; I guess either my dyslexia kicked in or else (gasp) maybe Marriott's IT department is rubbing off on me.
By bonus nights I meant the extra nights on my account that were not actual nights stayed at any of the hotels.
I thought I earned a night for every $3,000.00 I spent on my MARRIOTT VISA but lately those nights aren't being posted.
tpb, yes, you should be earning a night toward status for every $3,000 spent. Mine usually post around the 9th of the month following the statement (i.e., September 29th statement should post one night (for me, as this month went through the next 3,000 level) on or about October 9th. To date, they have not missed a single one for me, so you might want to reach out to Marriott direct if you are missing any. Good luck.
I have looked over the past 2 months and I haven't had any bonus nights credited-when I definitely should have. You mention that they are usually posted about the 9th of the month. Who can you contact to verify when my bonus nights might get caught up?
tpb and desert, since I have yet to have this issue, I am not certain; however, you might try sending a direct message to the community managers with your concerns. (send direct messages via the dropdown option under create in the upper right section of this webpage). The community managers seem to be able to, at the very least, point you in the right direction, and seem to be pretty good at resolving issues.
Hi deserttraveler5 and tpb1
Bonus points can take up to 8 weeks to post. There are also certain stipulations required for earning these nights. We have the link to the Terms & Conditions here for you!

I am confused as to what a bonus night means. I have Silver Elite status. I have had my card for a long time, but do not book often, as I am saving up for an Alaskan Cruise. I have searched here for a precise answer, but have had no success.
With your creditcard, you earn the following:
Hope that helps.
Are you talking about this:
Earn one (1) credit toward Elite Status for every $3,000 you spend. They usually show up around the 10th of the month.
See below from MR Premier Card site:
You will earn 1 Elite night credit for each $3,000 in Net Purchases. (“Net Purchases” are purchases of goods and services made by you or any authorized user on your account minus any returns or refunds, and do not include balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like charges such as travelers checks, foreign currency, and money orders, any checks that access your account, overdraft advances, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.) We have the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer. We reserve the right to change or end this offer at any time. There is no limit to the number of Elite nights that you can earn. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Elite nights to be credited to your Marriott Rewards account from the last day of each calendar month you qualify. To qualify for the Elite nights, your account must be open and not in default at the time of processing and fulfillment. Chase is not responsible for offer fulfillment or the provision of or failure to provide the stated benefits and services.
Hope this helps.
Can someone explain to me how does $3,000 in purchase earns a bonus reward night? If my statement balance shows I spend $3,010, do I earn one? If it shows $2,950, does it start the counter all over again the next month? Or they use total/aggregate purchase to reward bonus nights whenever a multiple of $3,000 is reached?
Appreciate any feedback.
jc5168, if you have an "original" Chase Visa - before merger - Chase will add 1 night to your "Nights from this Year" for every $3,000 spent. Amounts accumulate from month to month so if you spend $2000 one month and $4000 the next, you will receive 2 nights credit. As others have explained, this is a night credit not a free stay, like the 15 nights added each year on your Chase anniversary. C
