Headed to Pittsburgh PA for a long weekend in October. Any suggestions on what we should see/do? Only have one free day while we're there.
Ride one of the Inclines to the top of Mt. Washington.
Visit the National Aviary.
Years ago went on a tour of how one of the old bridges worked it was quite interesting could not remember which one however in searching for information I found this which you might find helpful.
Tour Downtown, bridges this summer | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Seems there are free walking tours on Fridays
On Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, the 10 a.m. tour covers the Fourth Avenue Historic District. Meet Downtown on Smithfield Street at Fourth Avenue under the One Oxford Centre sign. The noon tour on those four Fridays in October covers Grant Street from Sixth to Liberty avenues. Meet outside the front entrance to the Omni William Penn Hotel.
You may also wish to consider the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. I've spent hours at a time there. It's gorgeous!
Just came back from a short visit there. For one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, I recommend going to Primanti Bros. There's a few around. The one in the Strip District is the original. The rest of the Strip District has unique local shops, including tremendous places to get Italian food and pastries.
Also recommend taking a river cruise to see unique views of the city and the sports stadiums. Saw a Pirates game. I've been to more than 20 major league baseball stadiums and was very impressed.
