Does anyone have any hotel recommendations in Vienna or any other city in Europe? I would like to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary in Europe.
Sounds like this will be a wonderful 20th!
Are you just looking in Italy? What are some of the places you plan to see?
I have not been to Italy nor Vienna. My husband on the other hand has been to Italy. Would really like to visit Vienna but need to make sure it's not too expensive. I am hoping to use my reward points for the stay.
We have really enjoyed the Vienna Marriott. Great location. Close to great restaurants and the public transportation in across the park. Yes the Marriott is right across a wonderful park. If you are Gold or Platinum the Executive Lounge is tops or it was last year and the year before. The Budapest Marriott which overlooks the Danube River is amazing. The hotel from outside does not look that great. But the views from the room are well worth it and another excellent Executive Lounge. Have a great trip. All of Europe is wonderful.
Will check into the Vienna Marriott. Thank you!
Unless you prefer the excitement of major city, I'd recommend the Renaissance Tuscany, where we spent our recent 50th anniversary: http://www.renaissancetuscany.com
This facility affords quiet, restful retreat in Tuscan foothills, north of Lucca and Pisa, a one-hour drive from Florence, with no need to search for places to eat, as food here is wonderful.Side trips to Lucca, Cinque Terre, etc. are only a few hours away, if you want to venture outside the Renaissance. Or, an afternoon in nearby Barga (20 minutes) is worth the effort. In the photo below from my balcony overlooking the valley you can see Gallicano, which I believe is the closest town that the train serves, and the Renaissance is some 20 minutes farther up the hillside; therefore, I would recommend either taking train to Florence, Pisa, or perhaps Lucca, and renting an auto in one of these stations as the Renaissance does not have shuttle accommodations.
If you choose to do so, let them know it's your anniversary, and they'll likely treat you with special kindness, as they have us in the past:
If you're so inclined, mention Georges Midleje, general manager's name, and that Fred Schumpert recommended this place, and it might net you some additional amenities? They even treated us with an anniversary cake:
My wife and I are headed back here for weekend stay in early September - no special occasion, just love the place and hospitality!
Great idea! Thank you.
Looks amazing, fschumpert, and congrats on the 50 years! I've been to Rome, Florence, Venice, and Sorrento, but never Tuscany. This post has moved it up a few lines on my bucket list, though.
Thanks for sharing!
Just saw this picture of you and your wife. How lovely! Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Just stayed weekend of Sept. 1 at Renaissance Tuscany, which was fabulous. Attended nearby winery tour at Podere Concori, including lunch and wine tasting, all of which Renaissance arranged for us.

Can't wait to see your pics. Thank you so much for sharing.
