Bill Marriott sharing his thoughts......
etwhite, Wow, what a great article (and question!) Thanks for sharing. This is so timely for me, as I just spent the last two (long) weekends with each of my two daughters at their respective places (and also a life-long BFF's), and this was the exact subject of discussion... We all deserve to be - Happy! and... How to find your 'Happy.' I actually left with homework assigned!, lol and books to read... at the top of the reading list is a book titled - 'You are a Badass.' (Really? My kids don't think I'm "Badass" enough? I've fallen down on the job(!), and obviously have some work to do!!) (Despite the title it's actually related to the topic of - happy.)
I love how Mr. Marriott finds happiness in seeing people develop and grow. Very awesome and so gratifying. Also like him, my most happiest places are with my family - my kids and grandkids, for sure hands down. I've written before about Newport Coast (again, I sure wish the IT folks wouldn't have busted up the photo albums here). Every year in August, my family gathers together at MVC Newport Beach for "family week" and I absolutely treasure it. It's coming up next month in fact, and I can't wait!!! MVC Newport Coast with the Fam is truly my left coast happy place!
Another thing that my sibs and I do together is travel. By traveling together every year, we're guaranteed quality time together despite our busy lives and geographic separation. These times are sacrosanct to us and we love them! It sounds cliché, but Marriotts are always involved! On deck in September, Hotel in Cannes, France - French Riviera Resort | JW Marriott Cannes , Renaissance Aix-en-Provence Hotel: Aix-en-Provence Distinctive Hotels and - Barcelona!!! Luxury Hotel in Barcelona, Spain | Renaissance Barcelona Hotel Woo hoo!
Again, great post, etwhite!
So c'mon, let's have it... Where do Insiders find their HAPPY?
pluto77, I really enjoyed reading about your "Your Happy Place". I have been on the road the past two weeks and haven't had the chance (mainly because i'm lazy!!) when I get back to the Hotel to even add my "Happy Place", but you have inspired me. Tonight, after dinner and drinks (I don't feel as bad about misspelling after several elixirs) I'll add my two cents. Mine will probably sound like a carbon copy of yours, but I'll try to change it up a bit!
My Happy Place is anywhere I can sit (preferably with a cold one) and watch the sun set into the water at the end of day. I store those visual memories up for the "less good days".
Well, I couldn't sum it up better than you did rlswider. I'd add that if I can ever get my kids (Millennials) out of College, I'm going to Retire... Then I will be able to enjoy the Beach year round!
I could not agree more as far as the kids and retirement goes, our youngest daughter is a senior this year finishing an engineering degree. So I've had those same exact thoughts as well etwhite.
