When a Marriott is not available, why or why not stay in an AirBnB?

I am just finishing a six week trip in Spain and France.  I have enjoyed visiting traditional Marriott properties in Madrid and Paris.  I have also been happily introduced to AC Hotels in the Spanish cities of Burgos, Leon, Pamplona, Madrid, and Toledo.  In the countryside (where Marriotts properties are not available), I have tried many different AirBnB properties.  I would be interested in hearing your general thoughts on AirBnB in Europe.  Pros, cons, experiences, etc.
