right there with ya painedplatinum! It was nice to have the summer bonus last year, and I'm hoping for more of the same!
I recall something Big Thom said in passing when we spoke in Houston last September. We were discussing the difficulties some folks had in registering for the "Your Bonus, Your Choice" MegaBonus offer from that fall. I'm not sure I can quote him exactly, but it was something akin to "we should have the bugs worked out by next summer's promotion." I pressed him a little, saying that suggested there would be a promotion next (now this) summer. He declined to elaborate.
I guess we'll know soon enough.
I really liked the double points on the first 3 stays this Spring! Took advantage on the Marriott and SPG sides of the equation. I hope we get another megabonus that allows us that kind of flexibility. The fall bonus, which required you to hit increments of 10 nights had a built in disincentive... if you couldn't get to the next 10, you simply quit trying. I'd love to look at the year over year analytics associated with that bonus, as I have to think discretionary stays went down. Let's hope Big Thom's hinting at a summer promo was the real deal!
Sadly double points deals don't do me much good as the majority of my stays are for one night before I move on the next location. I will end the current promo with ~7k points. Better than nothing. Of course I did also have a couple 5-night redemptions during this MegaBonus.
I can usually reach 10-15 nights no problem, and sometimes more. I agree the 10 night thresholds were too far apart last fall. I'd be pleased with something akin to what we used to see (i.e. 15k points after 10 nights and then additional points per night up to a max of 30-45k). The number of nights and the associated points have varied in the past, but you get the idea.
I'll admit that my type of travel is a bit unusual, but then again so is earning Platinum status entirely on leisure stays, few of which are longer than a single night. Some folks did extremely well on the double points promotion. I'm just not one of them.
I hope we hear something soon. I've already got 10 nights planned in the first couple months after the current promotion ends. It would be nice if some them could count toward bonus points.
I did well with the spring Megabonus. Unfortunately, my longest stay was my 4th and did not geneate the kind of points I would have if it had been one of the first three.
I agree. As someone who doesn't travel a lot, it was the first time I was able to qualify for a bonus. Fingers crossed for the summer bonus ~ hope we all can benefit!!
I Liked that approach also. I dont stay 10 nights in three months so it is nice to get some reward
nationwide, I did the same but only by accident. Had 3 Marriott stays, then switched to SPG and had 2 stays there during the promo. Got a boatload of Starpoints and thinking I should have crammed in another SPG stay to get some more.
Also looking forward to seeing what the summer bonus may be. Does anyone recall when last year's was released? I have yet to make a Marriott stay this year believe it or not (all falling on the Starwood side so far), but will be ramping up heavily in the May - Sept timeframe.
droma - I believe it was announced about May 20, 2016 and was called the "Summer Promotion." Between 5/24 and 9/5/16 you could earn 2000 points/stay for each of stays 2 through 6, and 2000 more after the 6th stay, for a total of 12,000 bonus points. In addition, there was a sweepstakes in which 100 people could win 100,000 points each. I don't recall hearing about who won those.
Great info azdesertrat! I'd take something similar this year with various 1 or 2 nighters.
WIth this type of program it causes me to stay a few more times to get points vs using points
I agree - it's a good motivation to pay with cash instead of points. I hope it starts before May 24, though. That would mean more than a month with no promotions going on. And bad timing for me, as I will be on a trip staying in three Marriott-chain hotels from April 29 to about May 17 total. Will be using points for about half the trip but cash for the rest, so a bonus would be nice! I will likely have stays later in the summer but this will be my biggest trip.
Oh I wish it would start in the beginning of May! I probably will only have one long trip this summer and I might miss the bonus...
If only I could plan my business trips around MegaBonus!!!
painedplatinum I agree, I hope there is a summer megalike bonus too. Knowing about if there is a summer bonus coming and if and when it would start would help in planning summer travels. Wonder why no announcement yet with current bonus ending on Friday April 15th. Maybe the hotels are "too full" and we will not see a summer bonus.
Given past experience with summer bonuses, it's still early in the game.I posted the following info on another thread about past summer promotions.
In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014, the summer promotions ran June 1 to August 31.
In 2013, the summer offer began May 15 and continued until September 5.
In 2016, the dates were May 24 to September 5
There was no summer promotion in 2015.
Given that most years the summer offer didn't start until June, I'm not surprised we haven't heard anything yet. During those same years (2009-2012, 2014), the spring MegaBonus ended April 30, meaning there was no bonus at all during the month of May. Last year the spring bonus ended May 15 and the summer promotion started May 24. That was the shortest time between promotions that I can remember. After it ended last summer, the fall MegaBonus still kicked off Sept 15.
Chances are there will be some time with no promotion. Whether that is 2 weeks, 6 weeks, or all summer remains to be seen. I won't be surprised by any of those possibilities.
Like others, I hope there is something. I've got nights booked starting the day after the current deal ends, all the way into early November. It would be nice if some of those stays could count toward earning some bonus points.
Looks like Marriott is already cutting corners on their outstanding debt by minimizing the points members will earn in 2017 on their hotel stays.
Do tell? What are you talking about here?
I really wish they gave us advance notice for the promotions. It would help me with my vacation bookings.
Question - I will be booking a lot of rooms on my June-July vacation. I was planning to book this week. If I do, does that mean I don't get credit in the Summer Bonus since I will have made reservations before the notice comes out??
escape2012, no, you're good. Any stays during the time frame of a megalike bonus will count, no matter when the reservation was booked.
I really liked the double points promotions. When I travel I often stay at the same hotel for multiple nights, so this approach worked for me. However, I may have a summer of travel coming up where I will be having many single or double night stays. However, I do like all promotions. Points are a great way to travel and I already have one awesome adventure planned in my head for this years earnings with many points left over!
I agree with you. I really like the double points promotion. (Though I wish it was triple the points) When I travel, I stay multiple nights in one or two cities, so I usually get 1 to 2 stays the most. During this promotion, I received 20% of my total points in my recent travel. I prefer to get the points, save them and redeem them for a hotel and city i was to visit at a future stay. I traveled the same time last year, had two stays and got a free category 1 to 5 certificate as part of that promotion. While a category 1 to 5 hotel has more value, it took a while for me a find a hotel in a city I was interested in going to. Having flexibility is the key.I rather have a promotion like this one because i don't travel frequently but when i travel, I stay 3 or more nights. The stay requirement really puts a limit for travelers like myself.
Agree with rowdy1438. We love the points! BUT, wouldn't it be great to be have the top 3 (or more) stays during the promotion period doubled (tripled )? For the 2017 Spring MegaBonus, only 1 stay of our first 3 was of high value, and that was only 1 night. C
Is there any updates for regarding the next bonus promotion?
Make sure you keep checking. There were many of us that didn't receive the spring bonus until we complained about it. Its almost as if they tried to slip it by us. And being Platinum Premier and lifetime platinum, I would expect it to show up automatically like it use to. But that wasn't the case for the spring bonus. We'll see what happens with the summer bonus, providing there is one.
I am a Platinum Premier and Lifetime Platinum as well..I just had to spend 45 minutes on the phone with MR to get the 30,000 bonus points for my 23rd stay during the promotion period..The MR rep had to keep going through all my stays and manually input everything..After the 3rd stay they stopped counting and there was no progress tracker online..I saved all my reciepts and even when they posted MR had a had time identifying quailfying activity..This last MegaBonus was not customer friendly.
Im going to guess there will be No Mega Bonus promotion this summer..Its not a given and since we just had one and hotels will be full of vacation travlers this summer..there is really no reason Marriott has to run one..Have a great summer!
Waiting on Hilton, IHG, and Marriott summer bonus promotions. While we wait, here are some bargain point redemptions from IHG and Hilton for the crossover travel folks.
IHG new PointBreaks (5,000 points per night) start April 24-July 31st.
Seems to be a lot in Europe this time around. Here are some gems as far as my travel takes me I'm looking to book tomorrow.
-Holiday Inn, Cuiaba, Brazil
-Staybridge Suites, Lafayette, LA
-Candlewood Suites, Aberdeen-Edgewood, MD
Good redemptions for Hilton Honors at 10,000 points per night currently booking/thinking about.
-Hampton Inn, Alamogordo, NM
-Hampton Inn, Oxford, AL
-Hampton Inn, Stephenville, TX
-Hampton Inn, Bakersfield, CA
Hopefully Marriott will match the Hilton summer bonus i read about yesterday ----Between May 1 and August 31, 2017, Hilton will be offering their “Go More Get More” promotion. Through this promotion, Honors members can earn double points on all eligible stays, while Diamond members will earn triple points on all eligible stays.--- hope marriott and starwood react in a good way to this
Hey rlswider thanks for letting me know about the new Hilton promotion. I didn't see it on my account, nor did I get an e-mail from Hilton, but I'm registered now thanks to you.
I'm not sure if it always says this, but my account under Promotions now says "Check back soon for new promotions". I think that's different than before...I seem to remember something like "No new promotions".....anyone else know if the "check back soon"...langauge is new and a precursor to the 2017 Summer Promo?
Interesting, painedplatinum. My account still say "No new promotions." Solely based on that, I'd say it is new language. Not much to go on, though.
painedplatinum Mine says the same thing "No updates yet, check again soon." I thought that was something new as well --- hopefully its a good sign.
* The Hilton summer promotion is a good one, although not as good as the current Hilton promotion (ends April 30th) of 2,000 bonus points per night that will net me 72,000 bonus points for my 36 nights at Home2 Suites.
* Hyatt's current promotion of double points ends June 30th. No word on a summer promotion yet.
* IHG has a mini in between promotion currently (ends May 15th) of 6,000 bonus points for 4 nights stayed. Easy.
* The new IHG summer promotion is out as of today. Remember, IHG uses targeted promotions, so your IHG summer promotion may be better or worse than mine based on your rewards level and stay pattern. Here is mine. It runs May 15-August 31. I'm Spire Elite with IHG.
So now it's Marriott's and LQ's turn. Hope they're as good or better than Hilton and IHG. I have a ton of travel this summer.
My Hilton bonus points are in
Last fall they had a choose your promotion, one for people who will be staying only a small number of nights and then another for the road warriors. I thought that worked well. Give the 10 nights a quarter travelers a chance but leave some for those of us who will hit 40-50 nights.
I just spoke with someone from Marriott (I was missing a 6 night stay). I asked about the Summer Promotion and was told it will be 2,000 points per STAY with no limit. Considering my stays are a week at a time, this isn't much of a deal. As someone with over 300 hotel nights a year, I would have hoped for a better bonus program. Maybe it's time to check out another program.
That really sucks. My stays are on a weekly basis as well, so in 8 weeks, I will have 8 stays and 32 nights. So this is a 16K point bonus ? Horrid.
Maybe I will check out and check back in daily. That would be 64K bonus.
Raw deal for the people with longer stays.
Now nipper, as a lifetime Plat, with over 3.9 million points, 2000 nights, and projecting over 230 nights of true butt in bed nature, you know better than to think a check in/check out is going to alter the status of a 'stay'.
All that is going to do is upset you more, possibly leading you elsewhere and we need veterans like yourself, staying with us, if we're ever going to . But I wholeheartedly agree with you - you've been hosed. It is (if it turns out that the rep is accurate) definitely a raw deal for loyalists like yourself with many nights packed into few stays.
Yea not fun erc
Back in the late 80's one hotel (maybe Holiday Inn) had a program, 75 stays and you get 1 week in Hawaii. I was travelling a lot and checked out every morning and back in every evening, since i was in town for a week. In your 20's you can do that. :-)
Its May 13 when are they going to announce
I feel like it's been forever since the last promotion! As a traveling consultant, these points will start to add up quickly!
Got the bonus - as reported throughout the land:
