Can some one list all the hotels which have a view of the central park?? Both JW marriott essex house and ritz carlton are extremely expensive.
RI Central Park, rooms are on floors 35-67 - rooms also face the hudson and times square but that hotel is excellent. last june I stayed there, got a corner room on the 58th floor overlooking times sq/ hudson.
Those are some of the most coveted views so they will always be expensive. I´ve seen some ok prices on Essex house, I think. At one point I had a reservation there on either a low price fare (compared to reg prices) or with points. I ended up cancelling the reservation, however, because I realized I was going to get the worst room in the house. Logically, they are going to give the good rooms to the people who rightfully pay full fare for them. I opted for a different strategy which was to go Midtown Renaissance. Again, on a fairly low fare and points. However, there, together with my status, I got a room with a view of the Statue of Liberty and we had a great time. While I feel like we had an upgrade it wasn´t to a suite nor even the top 5 floors (which I regularly get just about anywhere else). NYC is a pay to play town. If you want the best, you are competing with deep pockets who also want it as well.
I´m guessing the park has some sentimental value for you. But if it doesn´t for the same price you could go to Scrub Island. Check it out if you haven´t already. If I had to choose between the two, Scrub Island would win out every time.
I have been to NYC numerous times and never stayed at a room with a central park view. My wife loves greenery and she always wanted to watch US open tennis (thats how we met actually as we both are tennis fans). So I was thinking I will combine both of them this Sept. Labor day weekend (2 nights) should be enough as we live in Connecticut.
Scrub island is planned for our anniversary in November where I have already booked a week long stay on points.
Since the entry level room at both the essex house and ritz are not park view rooms I will have to rely on upgrades if I use points which I have a ton. I am a platinum member but that being a labor day weeknd I would rather have a confirmed park view room rather than rely on upgrades.
As an earlier poster recommended I may go with residence inn or choose non-marriott hotel.
