Has anyone heard yet about PP status for 2017? I'm at 202 nights so hopeful........
Dont know. The app shows my status as PP and 0 nights. I had 183 paid nights plus 200 rollover. Seeing 383 nights was pretty coolI thought.
Your 2016 status stays with you until 2/1/17. You should learn your fate at that time. 202 nights should definitely put you at PP.
202 on its own may not do it....If the two years prior are strong, then yes, but if it stands on its own, it may need to be backed up with at least one more heavy year.
what does PP actually provide you? I would have thought I would have qualified....I have been well over 150 nights a year for a couple now....I have 120 roll over nights from last year alone
I made Platinum Premier as well, but I'm also showing 0 nights (no rollovers, yet). What extra "goodies" do we get?! LOL
Just logged onto Marriott.com this morning and got Platinum Premier for 2017! My 2016 nights was 175, which included 36 rollover from 2015. Woohoo!
Congratulations nittanysteve and welcome to Marriott's top honors club!
Well ive just logged on and found my status as Plat Premier, though I'm very shocked if that's the case. I remember last year there was a glitch on the App that showed all Plats as PP, and with Marriotts recent IT woes, I think this must be the case here, at least for me.
And no, painedplatinum, this isn't false modesty my most recent figures are:
2014 120 nights of which 80 were paid, 30 from 3 cheap meetings and 10 credit card
2015 95 nights of which 45 were paid, 40 were 2014 rollovers and 10 credit card
2016 125 nights of which 60 were paid, 15 redemptions, 40 double-promo and 10 credit card
I just can't see those numbers being sufficient for PP...
brightlybob, here's a hearty congratulations my friend! I gotta think they are looking at the "big picture!" Awesome!
Well I hope they're looking at the big picture because I really would appreciate the big PP benefit, UA Gold! I could do a bit of damage with that baby!
Maybe Bob..that's three nice years in a row. Since you are paying the high prices, it may be that you've also joined the top tier.
brightlybob I think you are now a member of the PP club...Welcome my friend!
302 for 2016
120 Carried forward into 2017, just added 10 from my stay in Maui. Thinking of burning
up stays at Starwood this year for the better points multiplier into MR.
Well, thanks all y'all for those kind words, I will come clean later if the status vanishes, but for the moment I'll bask in the prestige, if unfortunately not the benefits, of PP
Now another thing I spotted when I logged in, over the weekend I'd received 1,500 points on 5th January marked "INSIDERS POINT BONUS". No email, nothing from MRI, just the credit... Anyone else got it and whats it for? Not that I'm not grateful, $15 of free points - to this Brexit-Bankrupted-Brit it is a nice welcome to the New Year, but I am curious...
I haven't gotten it nor have I ever heard of it. Once you learn what it is please let us know.
No bonus here brightlybob, so please do keep us posted!
hmmm. 201 paid stays with 52 rollover last year.
Nada. No bump to PP
Happy to be Premier Platinum for third year in a row. Already Lifetime Platium, but this is a real come up from that status, in my experience, as I have enjoyed being faithful to the Marriott Hotel chain all over the globe in my work and travels. I always write reviews; I recommend Marriott Rewards to my friends and colleagues; I am always cordial to the staff; I recognize the value propostion Marriott offers not only it's customers, but also the plenitude of career paths for their employees. I use the credit card. It is nice to feel appreciated and recognized as a loyal customer. Maybe this addition to nights stayed and credit card points make a difference in becoming Premier Platinum member. I <3 Marriott. Cheesy, but true. Thanks Marriott.
Well, I was thinking 2017 was my year for PP, but so far no luck. Maybe they're still updating status? My rollover nights updated yesterday.
I had around 145 paid nights in 2014, 2015, and 2016, almost exclusively at a full-service property. I don't know my rollover and credit card nights for those years, but my rollover for 2017 is 103. I also had an elite concierge last year (no word yet on whether that continues in 2017). I am still relatively new (started at zero in mid-2013, 2014 was my first year as Platinum), but will hit LT Platinum next month. From what I've read on here, it sounds like they have historically based PP on the prior 3 years of activity. Perhaps they've increased that for newbies?
I was wondering if I would hit PP this year, and it looks like I haven't. Never mind - thanks to my rollover nights from 2016 im already Platinum again through 2018. Based on my Q1 2017 schedule, ill be racking up the nights again.
Don't tell the wife, but dayum I missed the Marriott bed over the Festive period !
Nobody really knows what the criteria is for PP, other than Marriott has publicly said it represents the "top 3% of Plats" though how that top 3% is defined? Nights? Rates? International travel? Bra size? It seems to be pretty accepted that 3 consecutive years as Plat are required.
Anecdotally it seems everyone with more than 3 years consecutive Plat status who reaches 300 nights in a year makes it as do many that reach 200, but there are many that don't get anywhere near that number but who maybe stay almost exclusively at FS (and hence pricey) or travel heavily internationally that have been minted. It's the parameters of that 3% definition that causes questions.
In any event it's important to realise that PP is a benefit free designation and really just consists of Marriott blowing wind up our skirts. The only benefits I know of are a special phone number and, variably, Gold at UA, so it's more of a curio really...
Too bad Marriott doesnt truly reward their top tier members.
after getting my status match at SPG, I now understand why SPG members were worried about losing their benefits. Marriott platinum is harder to get, yet less benefits at the top. I spend over $6k a month at Marriotts (great for my point balance), but they will have to do better to reward their top tier.
i stayed at a Hilton last month in HNL, got the reward match to Diamond, and they really tried to impress. upgraded to a great room with two lanai and beautiful view.
I think the problem Marriott has with the rewards program as a whole is that they don't apply the perks the same way at the various properties. Each brand has different things they do for different levels of membership and with some frequency a PP member is greeted as a standard Plat member, with the same "perks". Now if you mention that you are a plat prem member not just plat at the higher end properties you'll sometimes find a small upgrade. The other side is that what you would consider an upgrade is not what they would consider (there's threads here discussing this). By the time you have logged enough nights for PP status, concierge floor and courtyard rooms or pool/view rooms are expected and not really considered "upgrades", though technically they are to the hotel. Other chains definitely have a more level benefits plan and application of those benefits to members from my experience.
I have had great success at properties overseas with actual room upgrades and in places like HNL where I got a great huge suite upgrade with 3 balconies and 2 huge rooms on the top floor. I've also run into properties that say that regardless of status you will not get the best room upgrade but merely a single class of room upgrade. That's sort of a kick in the nether region when booking on points and no room variety is offered for greater point use.
As far as what it takes to get plat prem, as best I can recall from the various threads on the topic it's something along the last 3-5yrs of stays, having achieved minimally 125nights each year and then some relative amount of spend. It's rumored to be the top 3% of all Plat members as brightlybob mentioned but there's no check box list of how to get it and it's somewhat a mystery. I've had it for the past 6 or 7yrs now and average around 140-150 nights a year, mostly paid stays.
well my first post;
i did 200+ nights last year (475 with bonus nights) and I'm still a lowly platinum. Just completing my 100th night this year . Any idea on how much I would have to go further to push into PP status.
any feedback would be great guys.
I would like to know this answer as well. I wrote them a few weeks ago. Their response was top 3% but would not say what that equated to.
If I'm not mistaken, someone mentioned on this forum that you also need to have three consecutive full calendar years of (regular) platinum status to be considered for PP status.
I'm not sure if this condition is actually confirmed, but I think it was just like that for myself:
2011: achieved Gold status
2012: achieved Platinum status during the year
2013 - 2015: Platinum status for full calendar year
2016: got PP status for the first time
2017: renewed PP status
In 2012 - 2016 I had roughly the same number of paid nights (150+).
Hope that helps...
I logged in this morning and noticed that I am now PP. This is the first time that they have given it to me. I had 365 nights in 2016 including my rollover nights. I have 151 tollover nights from 2017.
So, I've finished year with 348 nights ( of this paid 212 and 133 promotional ), rolled 273 to 2017, skyrocketed from 80 LT nights to 700 LT ( thank you double night promotion and rollover nights ) and boosted my account by 1MIO points. All this between FEB.2016 and now. I did not have any notable activity in 2014 and 2015 though...
Do I have any hope to get PP by earning 1MIO points in 212 paid stay, or I will need to wait for another year or two...not that I need it so much, just asking...
Can a Mod fill us in on when the PP welcome membership letters/gifts are expected to arrive? Thanks!
Taking a look to see what we can find out.
Yeah, carat i want to know whether my PP is actually the real thing, and not another IT glitch like last year, so an email from Marriott would prove it!
Apologies for the delay in response, Insiders! Looks like Platinum Premier members can expect to receive notice late February to early March.
Will PP include UA Gold perk this year? From reading posts it looks like the only thing that PP's really value.
I also would like to know this, anybody who can clarify?
I was PP last year (for 5th year in a row- the UA gold is the only tangible benefit of this level so everybody don't get expect much -
Now today my status with united was downgraded to Silver. My status shows still PP - currently at 120 nights with rollover. So did we loose this one benefit or is Marriott working on this?

For regular platinum it is silver for PP it was already 2 years gold see below and extract of the mail I received last
year on 2/10/2016
I was PP in 2016 and again for this year, I never received this offer...interesting...
Me neither. Ive been platinum premier for five years now and platinum for at least 8 years before that.
This is exactly what I had. Nice save! Seems like more than 2 years. The way point value has been diluted this is the only real worthwhile perk.
Eagerly awaiting to hear back from you carat! Sincerely hoping they don't nix the UA Gold Benefit when I hit PP for the first time!
What exactly does that mean? I have had UA gold status for the last few years because of being platinum premier. Now as of today I'm UA silver. Is Marriott continuing their perk of UA gold for pp's or not? Looks like no to me. How about a direct answer?
Hi theessentials & 160peryear,
At this time there is no promotion being offered that will give our Platinum Premier members United Gold status. However, you can get United Silver status through RewardsPlus. Be sure to check your available promotions in your online account to see if there is any new information there.
Hmmm, that's a pretty vanilla, almost asinine, response there, andrewt.
With PP being a pretty much empty vessel benefits-wise, the withdrawal of its only real, and to many, valuable, benefit - UA Gold - is an almost fatal cut.
Is there any redeeming feature, or is Marriott really saying "UA Gold has ended for PPs - silver is it - message ends"
Yes, I've been staying at Marriott's exclusively since the early '80's. I am now exploring other options. Never considered that before.
Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, my main man, that's a bit harsh don't you think?
adjective - extremely stupid or foolish
I read this thread last night, but had just come from a terrific Bourbon tasting event with some buds (Woodford, Bulleit, Maker's Mark, Four Roses single barrel, Jimmy Beam's Angel Cut and some rail brands just to keep us honest) so I thought I had misread it , but looking today, I'm saying, "what the heck, that's not the BB, hail fellow, well met fella that I know". Now, I'm heading down to that lovely South Beach Marriott (partially based on your experience), and off the grid for a week, so be nice to me in responding, xox.
Marriott gave a benefit and took it back - a hose job, no doubt; but our man Andrew only reports the news, he doesn't make it. Yeah, he could have gotten by without the line, "check your promos" - as if that would ease the pain - ha! Ironically, going beyond a vanilla response was when he got himself in trouble, by poking the wound.
And as you rhetorically asked, "NO, there is no redeeming feature (can you say BOGO, 5 night Travel Package, Welcome Amenity, etc, etc) and YES, "UA Gold has ended for PPs - silver is it - message ends".
Ok gang, off to the beach, watching the Big Game (apparently it's trademarked and I can't say Super Bowl...oops). Have a great time and as always, keep on keepin' on. nationwide please send me daily updates, so I know how everyone's doing with their MegaBonus, badges, and birthday elite nights .
Your friend and mine,
erc, I won't be providing any updates this weekend as the Super Bowl is in my back yard! However, I did like your bourbon tasting and thought I'd share one with you that I recently enjoyed - Blood Oath. Exceptional! It has quite the story. The distiller blends three premium bourbons each year, and the resulting blend is remarkable. The catch? Nobody knows which 3 go into the blend, and thus the name... Just had it two nights ago - outstanding!
Enjoy the game my friend! I know I will! Falcons Rise Up!!!
Hmm, erc maybe asinine was a little heavy handed, though in my defence I did say "almost asinine" - what grated my gears here was the canned "check your promos" ending - as you remarked, we'll be finding no pain relief there!
Aand onto a nicer subject, the lovely beachfront Marriott Stanton SoBe
Exec lounge breakfast, although a small lounge this has 4 balconies which is more than enough room
Selfie from our room balcony... beautiful ocean view!
Cara are there any updates to PP status updates? I.E. has everyone already received the bump that are going to get it?
I was PP for the first time in 2016. I've rolled 164 nights over into 2017. We'll see on 2/1/2017 if I made the cut again.
I am new to Platinum Premier having made it for the first time this year. I am currently on my second stay since achieving that level and have noticed no difference in service or benefits. In fact, on my current stay I was not only unable to get onto the concierge floor but they could not accommodate my reservation choice of a king bed. The hotel was hardly filled. I must admit, I had at least hoped for some modest form of recognition for the time, effort and dedication to the brand (inclusive of way to many timeshare weeks and destination points). This thread and others like it seem to suggest that the real value is travel in Asia but as someone who only occasionally finds myself there I return to my original premise -- having made Lifetime Platinum absent a real benefit from additional Marriott stays am I not simply better off accumulating nights and status in another chain? Mind you I am truly a Marriott fan but that description does not divorce me from logic and in seeking to maximize the benefit obtained from way too many nights (admittedly far fewer than some on this thread) on the road and away from home. Best of luck with your reservations and benefit level.
Not getting your preferred room type doesn't sound right. You might want to have a look into the guarantee: Marriott Rewards® Elite Benefits Guarantee
Apologies for the frustration this has caused, njmarriottfan! We'd like to share this with the appropriate team for review. Would you mind sending me a direct message with your Rewards number and details of where you had this experience? Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the slow response but I have been traveling -- or trying to given the airport protests.
Forgive also the question as I am new to this site. I am not typically in the practice of giving out frequent guest numbers etc. on line. Can you fill me in a bit more about your role here?
The stay was at the Richmond Marriott -- other than the room type the folks were quite peasant and I must admit the room service above average.

Let me second that, usuallyinchina. She can be trusted for sure and is an asset to our group here. Most important she not only listens to us but gets results!
That is how most of feel...disappointed but I do get the value when in Asia!
I received the Platinum Premier Gift in the mail today. It's a leather cord holder with a USB/Apple cord included.
Congratz! ...I haven't received anything yet. I'm starting to wonder if I was awarded PP by mistake? :/
FYI, Just a note to all PP...only those in the USA are eligible for the gift.
I received my gift on Friday, I posted a picture up to Instagram... strangely, no love from any of the #Marriott sites I tagged
I still haven't received my gift, the Marriott site says I'm Platinum Premier and I was able to upgrade myself to United Gold, who would I talk to see if a gift was sent my way?
In case anyone was wondering, the benefits remain the same, which are lackluster. Still no Ambassador service.
I checked in at a Westin property this week and asked why I never get the luxury suites, despite staying there nearly every week for several months. "Those usually go with Ambassador service." Seriously? As a PP in MR, it really makes me feel cut short. So I need to hit 100 nights at Starwood properties to get perks of a status that's below PP at MR, despite the programs being "aligned"?
carat can you provide an update on the MR Ambassador program being expanded?
caratandrewt Any word on the MR Ambassador being expanded beyond the pilot?
As usual, I just squeaked in for Platinum with 78 nights. Three rollover nights is a lot for me! At 700 I'm just 50 nights away from Lifetime Platinum, but PP is way beyond anything I shall ever have.
Yeah, well you're not missing anything by not getting PP...
Marriott/Starwood may finally put some substance into PP in 2018 when the two programs are combined and they are looking for a way to have multiple levels of Platinum status (just like Starwood has now). Stay tuned!
Got my PP welcome package, thank you Marriott! Won't spoil the gift but it's nothing more than expected. Also got my United rewards letter yesterday, Silver status, not Gold. Oh well.
just found out, ALL PLATINUM PREMIER GET UNITED GOLD!
Here's the link to sign up. Yay!!!
