Never being there. I would like to knrow a List of the must do. Thanks in advance for any help.
You are in for a memorable trip and experience. A few things that you may want to consider:
If you fly, and want to land closer to the area, fly into Eagle. Arrange for transportation to/from there. Have your hotel help you with this task. You will be happy, as you must remember that this is a very busy time of year for the area.
If you fly to Denver and drive, be prepared for weather complications.
When in Aspen, you will want to have a meal or refreshment at "Little Nell"! One of the finest "Pubs" in America. Famous for it's regulars and "Who's Who", ( A hang-out for the late John Denver).
One other consideration is visiting Vail, while in the area. A wonderful Marriott, in the heart of downtown. Walking is wonderful in the snow, and dining and shopping are exceptional. Here are a few places in Vail to consider:
Spacious rooms at The Vail Marriott
View of Vail Ski area from hotel room patio at Marriott
A memorable and spectacular view awaits you as you dine atop Vail Mountain at "Game Creek Club"! You have access only by taking their "Snow Cat", that is after taking The Vail Tram to the top of Vail Mountain. Make Reservations!
Have a wonderful trip, and let us at MRI know if we can provide more detailed answers to your questions!
Aspen, Vail, and Summit County all offer different advantages.
Telluride is harder to reach but it is spectacular!
Steamboat is not as nice but it's lower elevation makes it better if you're bothered by the elevation.
Thanks for the tips!!!!! Those places are in my wishing list
Thanks a lot Jerry for your comments, the wonderful pictures and the tips . Unfortunately I have already purchased my tickets and yes I am arriving at Denver . It s a busy week and the weather is not on my side. I know. Plus No rooms in Vail almost in the one you mentioned me.
You are in for a great trip! Just book your vehicle early, and you might consider a 4-wheel drive, or a transportation vehicle to let you relax on the drive!
The recommendation from phctourist of Summit County is one to be looked at as it is closest to Denver other than Winter Park. Summit County offers excellent skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort | Breckenridge.com, Copper Mountain Hotels, Lodging, Skiing & Activities | Ski-Copper.com and Keystone Resort | Keystone, Colorado | KeystoneResort.com. My favorite is Copper Mountain for it's number of runs as well as varied terrain which is friendly for all levels of ability. Keystone has night skiing, but that can sure get brutally cold quickly!
All the resorts are first class with the towns of Breckenridge, Frisco and Dillon all close by with some very good spots to dine. A four wheel drive vehicle is not a must however; a very good decision just in case you ran into a huge mountain storm.
Keep us informed of your plans and I'm sure others will chime in with more ideas.
Thanks so much. All of you are helping me a lot.!!!
Good, keep those cards and letter coming monisame.
I will!!!! thanks again.
One more choice in Summit County is Arapahoe Basin Arapahoe Basin Ski & Snowboard Area, Summit County Colorado. The scenery there is amazing!
You're right, how could I have forgotten A Basin as it was the steepest run I've ever seen and it took me a while to get down. Wish I could remember the name of it....hmmmm.
Thanks a lot.!!!! phctourist and iahflyr for taking the time to write and sharing!!!
Gave up downhill skiing several years ago, but we've been to Vail/Aspen areas on several occasions, with this post one of our most recent: Off Season in the Rockies
Although Aspen is nice, there's more to do and see in Vail and Eagle areas, in my opinion.
My primary recommendation is to schedule your in/out of Vail - if you fly into Denver - at times other than en route to Vail on Friday afternoon, and return to Denver on Sunday afternoon, or Monday mornings.
Thanks a lot fschumpert for your comments and advices. Really seing your link has gotten me excited to be in the mountains right now-. It is my first time in Colorado.
Great I will put this in my list too. !!!!
