I alway stay here when I travel out of PDX, great place to stay, park your car and catch the train to the Airport.
We normally stay downtown at the City Center Marriott however; on our next trip out of PDX in a few months will be staying at the Cascade Station RI. Train to the terminal rather than take their shuttle? Any dining tips in the area?
Hey iahflyr, when we visit Portland we always stay at the Marriott City Center. Our favorite steak restaurant in the neighborhood is the Urban Farmer. If you dine there you must also start off with their assortment of cheeses. They wheel a cheese cart over to your table for you to choose from. If you are into high end scotches, bourbons, & whiskies, visit the Multnomah Library. They literally have hundreds, including a number of very rare ones, to delight you! The "librarians" will help you make the right selection. There are also dozens of brew pubs in Portland. Some of our favorites include Rogue, Yard House, Deschutes, and Brix Tavern. Have fun...bottoms up!
Thanks for the intel....we love Portland and have stayed at City Center numerous times yet never been to Urban Farmer as we normally do not dine out for steak. However. not being one to shy away from a GREAT Library of "prescribed meds" will have to check that place out on a future visit. Unfortunately this upcoming visit will be on the coast and just driving back to fly out the next day so most likely won't be in downtown unless we change the reservation from the Cascade RI to City Center which could happen.
But keep those card, letters and great ideas coming as well as any Asian spots such as Pok Pok PDX or My Thai Bistro, Portland - Restaurant Reviews, Phone Number & Photos - TripAdvisor, then of course out by the airport a place we love both in PDX and SEA, Columbia River / Portland - Salty's Waterfront Seafood Grills.
Hey iahflyr here are two recommendations for the next time you are in downtown Portland. If you like sushi, try Bamboo Sushi. They feature "sustainable" sushi, so their offerings change frequently. They have several locations, but you want to go to their location at 836 NW 23rd Ave. The reason for this is that right next store is Salt & Straw which is a homemade ice shop with some very interesting flavors that you won't see anywhere else. I recommend both very highly.
Thanks mustanggt, will put that in the book as we love Sushi. Not a huge ice cream fan so probably just do the fly-by like we did of Voodo, attempt to get into the joint and then head out!! As old as I am one has to watch their intake of things that don't benefit ones health, that's where the "prescribed meds" come in and clear the veins using things like Tito's!! LOL
