My family has lots of interests, so all suggestions are welcome! We love hiking, museums, concerts, festivals, beaches, cities, small towns, historical sites...and the list goes on and on.
Newport, RI can hit alot of the items you mention. Tons of stuff to do and excellent restaurants!
Newport is a great weekend getaway. There is an excellent Marriot FS hotel there right near the water front.
North Conway, NH is about 2 hours from Boston. Hiking, Mountain Climbing in the spring summer and fall and both downhill and xc skiing in the winter. There is a fairly new RI in town and some decent restaurants. Be sure to check out the Blueberry Muffin for breakfast.
I've heard good things about North Conway from others, too. The fall colors must be very impressive up there.
Maine coast is great and coming back down stay at wentworth inn just north of Portsmouth. Keenebuckport would be a good place to stay on maine coast and if you go have the seafood chowder at the maine dinner in Wells
A Little more color on the seafood chowder at the Maine dinner as feature on triple D . It has large chunks of lobster, scollops , shrimp and clams . One fine choice and you can get to go . They have a lot of other great choices
So many choices: Stowe, VT; Portland, ME; Salem, Cape Cod, Newport, New Bedford, Kinnebunkport, MA; and if you're venturing further North, Nova Scotia
You might consider light house tour throughout the N.E., such as these in South Portland.
Great beach side restaurant here as well, and stop over in New Bedford (below) en route to Cape Cod....
Kinnebunkport offers numerous photo opts....
....as well as Cape Cod - plenty of bed 'n breakfast properties here. If interested in taking ferry over to Nova Scotia, don't miss Peggy's Cove....
Wonderful options, than you!
We're scheduled to go to Saratoga Springs later this month. There appears to be lots to do and see there even if the racetrack isn't open. I'll write a review after we return.
So many great suggestions here! I'm a true New Englander and have lived in the Northeast for most of my life. While there is beauty everywhere, I have to say the summers are for the coast line. So many great little tourist towns with tons to do. My favorite little lesser known destination is Rockport, MA. It is a very quaint town with cute shops, great eats and wonderful, quiet beaches.
Is that the hometown of Rockport shoes?
I Think Rockport shoes are in Maine
